Gerald Charles is presenting a new interpretation of the Masterlink at Geneva Watch Days 2026 that places traditional craftsmanship at the center of the design. The Masterlink Atelier Edition features a hand-hammered Maillechort dial, individually finished by a skilled artisan at the Gerald Charles Atelier in Geneva. Available in three colorways — Golden Rose, Rhodium and Golden Yellow — each version is limited to just 25 pieces.

The new edition of the collection combines two distinct aspects of the young brand's savoir-faire. On one hand, it features the highly engineered architecture of the Masterlink, characterized by its compact square case, ultra-thin manufacture movement, and integrated bracelet. On the other hand, it showcases the deliberately irregular surface of the dial, achieved through hundreds of individually controlled hammer strikes. Consequently, no two watches possess identical dials.

Slim, Yet Sturdy

The case measures 38 x 38mm and is crafted from 316L stainless steel with polished and satin-brushed surfaces. At just 7.99mm thick, it remains relatively slim while still offering a 100-meter water resistance. The model adheres to Gérald Charles Genta’s enduring philosophy of treating steel as a material deserving of haute horlogerie. Its square, compact proportions set the Masterlink apart from the larger Maestro that preceded it.

The same philosophy extends to the integrated bracelet. Developed in-house by Gerald Charles, it follows the asymmetrical geometry of the case, including the characteristic curve at 6 o’clock known as a “smile.” The links follow this changing geometry, while the concealed folding clasp and hidden push-pieces maintain the bracelet’s uninterrupted appearance.

The defining feature of the Atelier Edition is its Maillechort dial, an untreated nickel-silver alloy composed primarily of copper, nickel and zinc. Each dial is hand-hammered at the Gerald Charles Atelier in Geneva, using hundreds of carefully controlled impacts to create a textured surface composed of numerous small facets. Maillechort is a demanding material to work with. It is harder to machine than the brass commonly used for watch dials, requires longer production times and places greater demands on tools. Gerald Charles deliberately selected the material for its qualities and its ability to serve as the foundation for the artisanal finishing process.

The resulting surface interacts with light differently from regular finishing techniques like sunray. Rather than reflecting light predominantly from a single direction, the individual facets scatter and capture light across the dial. As the watch moves, highlights shift continuously across the surface. There are no applied hour markers to interrupt the texture, while the baton-style hour and minute hands provide a clean, understated indication against the richly textured surface. They are treated with Superluminova for night-time readability.

Ultra-Thin Manufacture Movement

Inside the Masterlink Atelier Edition is the self-winding GCA 1000 manufacture movement, developed exclusively in-house by Gerald Charles. The ultra-thin and finely finished caliber measures just 2.67mm thick and uses an offset micro-rotor. Operating at 3 Hz, it comprises 176 components and offers a 50-hour power reserve. Its bridges feature snailing, Côtes de Genève and circular graining, while Incabloc shock protection, hacking seconds and a unidirectional rotor complete the technical package.

The Masterlink Atelier Edition is available in Golden Rose, Rhodium and Golden Yellow dial colorways, with 25 pieces produced in each version. Pricing is available upon request.
