With the release of its new 38mm Fifty Fathoms Automatique models, Blancpain has taken a definitive step toward completing a modern horological trilogy. For the first time, its flagship diver’s watch is now offered in three distinct sizes— 38, 42, and 45 mm— cementing the Fifty Fathoms’ reputation as a timepiece for every wrist, every style, and every preference.

Last week, the brand captured attention with the debut of two vibrant 38mm references featuring pink and smoky black mother-of-pearl dégradé dials. This week, Blancpain introduces a new series of traditionally styled 38mm models that round out the Fifty Fathoms Automatique line with yet another option. Housed in stainless steel, grade 23 titanium, and red gold, and available with either a sunburst black or blue dial, these new watches bring fresh versatility to a collection rich in legacy and innovation.

What’s most remarkable about this expansion is not just the additional size, but the thoughtful proportions. Rather than simply miniaturizing an existing design, Blancpain has reworked the dimensions of the Fifty Fathoms to ensure visual harmony and ergonomic balance. The result is a watch that feels substantial yet comfortable on any wrist while preserving the unmistakable identity of the original 1953 icon.

That identity is steeped in pioneering history. Introduced by then-CEO Jean-Jacques Fiechter, an avid diver himself, the original Fifty Fathoms broke new ground with innovations that became foundational to modern dive watches. A lockable unidirectional bezel, enhanced water resistance, luminous markers and numerals for underwater legibility, automatic movement, and anti-magnetic protection were revolutionary then–and remain essential today.

The latest 38mm additions continue that tradition, now with a focus on inclusivity. While smaller case sizes have often been viewed as catering primarily to women, Blancpain’s new models are consciously gender-neutral. They appeal equally to enthusiasts seeking a lighter, more understated profile, reaffirming that high-performance, heritage design transcends traditional sizing norms.

Each of the new references delivers a distinctive personality. The stainless steel model with a black dial and bezel offers a pure, essential interpretation most faithful to the original Fifty Fathoms. The titanium version introduces a sleek, modern edge with its lightweight construction and vibrant blue dial. Meanwhile, the red gold edition strikes an opulent tone, marrying deep blue with warm metallic hues in a piece that feels as refined as it is robust. All feature sunburst-finish dials, oversized luminescent markers, and Blancpain’s signature domed sapphire bezel insert.

Inside each watch beats the Blancpain manufacture caliber 1150, a slim automatic movement offering a remarkable 100-hour power reserve and a date indication between 4 and 5 o'clock. A silicon balance spring ensures anti-magnetic performance, while the transparent sapphire caseback reveals a beautifully finished rotor in gold–NAC-coated and inspired by the original 1953 model.

The 38mm line also marks the debut of integrated bracelets in titanium and stainless steel, crafted with alternating satin-brushed and polished surfaces for a refined, seamless look. For those seeking a more rugged or casual style, strap options include tropic rubber, sail-canvas, and NATO, each secured by either a pin buckle or folding clasp.

Pricing starts at $16,700 for the stainless steel versions, at $17,900 for the titanium references and at $30,600 for the red gold models.
