A Colorful Tribute to Singapore

Ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix, IWC Schaffhausen presents a new team watch for its longstanding partner, the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team. The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team (Ref. IW388121) combines a lightweight Grade 5 titanium case with a striking purple dial — a first for the color in IWC’s Pilot’s collection. The saturated shade takes its inspiration from Vanda Miss Joaquim, an orchid that was bred in Singapore in 1893 and is the country’s national flower. Its purple color also gives the otherwise highly functional Pilot’s Watch a more expressive character, while the team’s signature Petronas green provides a vivid contrast. The Singapore Grand Prix is Formula 1’s first night race, with the event taking place around the 4.94-kilometer Marina Bay Street Circuit. The team is scheduled to complete 62 laps under the floodlights in October.

The Fourth Official Team Watch

The new Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 is the fourth official team watch IWC has created for the F1-team. The partnership dates back to 2013, when IWC became the team’s Official Engineering Partner. The first dedicated team watch arrived at the 2022 Miami Grand Prix in the form of the titanium Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41. A year later, IWC followed with the Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41 in Ceratanium and black ceramic. In 2025, the three-hand Pilot’s Watch Mark XX joined the series. As with its predecessors, the new chronograph will be worn trackside by team members including mechanics and engineers, as well as by staff at the Mercedes-AMG Petronas headquarters in Brackley, England.

Purple Dial Meets Petronas Green

The dial retains the clear, instrument-inspired layout characteristic of IWC’s Pilot’s Chronographs. Petronas green appears on the numerals and indexes, as well as on the luminescent coating of the hands, making them stand out against the deep purple background. At 3 o’clock, a combined day-and-date display adds practical functionality. A purple rubber strap completes the color scheme and is equipped with IWC’s EasX-Change system, allowing it to be exchanged without tools.

Titanium for Lightweight Performance

Measuring 41mm in diameter and 14.5mm in height, the case is made from Grade 5 titanium. The material is valued in motorsport for its high strength-to-weight ratio, resistance to heat and corrosion, and low density. The brushed finish emphasizes the characteristic silvery-gray appearance of the metal. The case is water-resistant to 10 bar and features a convex sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides. The crown is screw-in, while the crystal is secured against displacement caused by drops in air pressure — a feature in keeping with the Pilot’s Watch’s aviation heritage.

The Mechanical Motor

Driving the watch is IWC’s self-winding Caliber 69385, a robust chronograph movement with a traditional column-wheel chronograph construction. Beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), the 33-jewel movement delivers a 46-hour power reserve. The manufacture movement comes to life through the sapphire case back which also pays tribute to the team. The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team retails for $9,200 without taxes.
