Vacheron Constantin Advances the Traditionelle Twin Beat Perpetual Calendar with 70-Day Autonomy

Vacheron Constantin revisits one of its most innovative complications with a new Traditionnelle Twin Beat Perpetual Calendar. Featuring an optimized dual-frequency movement and a striking open-worked dial, the latest version extends its power reserve to an impressive 70 days.

When Vacheron Constantin introduced the Traditionnelle Twin Beat Perpetual Calendar in 2019, it offered an ingenious solution to one of the perpetual calendar’s greatest practical challenges: maintaining the calendar’s accuracy when the watch is left unworn for extended periods. The answer was a patented dual-frequency movement that allows the wearer to switch between a high-frequency Active mode for daily wear and a low-frequency Standby mode that dramatically reduces energy consumption while preserving the calendar indications. Seven years later, the Geneva manufacture returns with a refined movement’s energy-management system and redesigned the instantaneous perpetual calendar mechanism.

The latest Traditionnelle Twin Beat Perpetual Calendar remains powered by the innovative Caliber 3610 QP, but a series of technical optimizations has increased the movement’s standby autonomy from 65 to an impressive 70 days. Combined with a contemporary open-worked dial and a platinum case, the new model showcases Vacheron Constantin’s ongoing dedication to both mechanical innovation and practical usability in haute horlogerie.

At the heart of the watch is Vacheron Constantin’s patented Twin Beat system, developed after four years of research and originally unveiled in 2019. The manually wound movement features two independent regulating organs: a high-frequency balance operating at 5 Hz (36,000 vibrations per hour) for everyday wear and a low-frequency balance operating at 1.2 Hz (8,640 vibrations per hour) when the watch is at rest.

A pusher integrated into the case flank at 8 o’clock allows the wearer to switch instantly between Active and Standby modes without interrupting the display of the time or calendar indications. In Active mode, the movement delivers a four-day power reserve, while the low-frequency Standby mode now extends autonomy to 70 days.

Optimized Caliber 3610 QP

Despite consisting of 480 components, the caliber 3610QP measures just 6mm thick. It has undergone further technical developments since 2019, particularly in relation to its three differentials. To ensure smooth reading of the hours and minutes, a first differential facilitates the transition between the two gear trains. A second differential is specifically designed to split the energy from the mainspring, channeling it exclusively to the 1.2 Hz gear train, which then powers the 1.2 Hz balance wheel. This balance wheel for Standby mode, recognizable by its larger diameter, is fitted with a hairspring adapted to its rate. Specially developed for this movement, its minuscule thickness of 0.015mm is far thinner than a human hair. The third differential is used to indicate the power reserves. As energy storage is provided by a double barrel fitted with two springs, this design allows, in addition to efficient energy distribution, the display of both power reserves by a single hand in a single counter featuring two scales – set at 12 o’clock on the dial.

A Contemporary Open-Worked Design

The visual presentation has been updated, too. The new sapphire dial reveals much of the movement beneath, creating a contemporary architectural appearance. The lower section exposes the sandblasted mainplate treated with a dark NAC coating, while the upper portion features an 18-karat gold plate finished in slate gray and decorated with a hand-guilloché radiating pattern. Applied white-gold baton markers and faceted Dauphine hands provide contrast and legibility. To optimize the readability of the displays, the power reserve, day and month counters have been modified and laser-etched glass gives them a frosted appearance that contrasts with the color of the movement and the guilloché upper dial.

The open-worked aesthetic extends to the movement side, where hand-beveled bridges, Côtes de Genève decoration, circular satin-finishing, and contrasting anthracite and golden-toned components highlight the caliber's technical complexity and beautiful mechanics.

Platinum Case

The watch is housed in a 42mm platinum case measuring 12.3mm thick. It retains the hallmark characteristics of the Traditionnelle collection, including a slim bezel, stepped lugs, and a fluted caseback. Water resistance is rated to 30 meters.
