A Premiere in Bronze: Panerai Introduces Luminor Marina PAM01678

Following the success of its steel and titanium Luminor Marina models, Panerai introduces bronze to this collection for the first time. The Luminor Marina PAM01678 blends maritime heritage and evolving patina in a timepiece designed to grow with its wearer.

Following the  steel and titanium Luminor Marina series unveiled at Watches and Wonders 2025, Panerai now brings bronze into the spotlight. Historically prized for its durability and resistance to seawater, bronze was a cornerstone in vintage yacht construction and naval equipment. Panerai first explored its potential in watchmaking with the Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days Automatic Bronzo 47mm (PAM00382) in 2011, and it has since become a defining element of the brand’s identity.

Panerai’s bronze composition consists of pure copper with tin, ensureing a warm, gold-like hue that naturally develops a distinctive patina over time. Each watch interacts with air, moisture, and wear, creating a unique protective layer. “Its evolving patina tells a story of time and the wearer’s journey,” says Alessandro Ficarelli, Panerai's Chief Marketing and Product Officer.

The PAM01678 remains faithful to the Luminor Marina’s signature design cues: a 44mm brushed bronze case, paired with a brushed and polished bronze bezel, featuring the iconic crown-protecting bridge. Incorporating Panerai’s modernized technical advancements, the watch is water resistant to 50 bar (~500 meters), made possible by the compact P.980 movement and refined case architecture. The streamlined lugs enhance ergonomics, while the watch’s overall weight and proportions have been optimized for comfortable daily wear.

The matte blue gradient sandwich dial, shaded from deep navy at the edges to a lighter center, is filled with beige Super-LumiNova for optimal low-light legibility. In keeping with Panerai’s 1960s-inspired models, the dial is intentionally clean, displaying only hours, minutes, and small seconds at 9 o’clock, foregoing a date window.

At its heart lies the new self-winding P.980 caliber paced at 28,800 alternations/hour and offeringa three-day power reserve typical of the brand. Featuring a traversing balance bridge, stop-second function, and rigorous six-position testing, the movement offers precision and durability. The sapphire case back provides a view of the movement’s top-notch finishing.

Panerai offers the Luminor Marina Bronzo with both blue calf and blue rubber straps. Pricing is marked at $17,500 without taxes.
