Triple Threat: JeanRichard Introduces Three New Watch Collections
The Swiss watch brand JEANRICHARD has often been in the shadow of its better-known sister brand in the Sowind Group, Girard-Perregaux. However, with the introduction of three revamped collections — the classical 1681 Ronde and the sporty Highlands and Aquascope — the brand is making a move to establish its own distinct identity.
The 1681 Ronde, described by JEANRICHARD as the most "elegant" and "traditional" of the three families, is named for the year in which the brand's namesake, pioneering watchmaker Daniel JeanRichard, manufactured his first watch. It contains the brand's self-winding manufacture caliber JR1000, developed in 2004, and is available in two versions, the 1681 Small Second, in a stainless steel case, with a seconds subdial and date window; and the 1681 Ronde Central Second, a three-hand model in a rose-gold case with a date window. Both models have round, 41-mm-diameter cases, white lacquered dials with baton indices and date windows at 3 o'clock, and leaf-shaped hands that are treated with luminous material. The Central Second version has applied gold Arabic numerals. The watches have sapphire casebacks displaying the movement and its new rotor with the brand's signature. They come on an alligator strap with hand-rolled edges and traditional pin buckles. Prices are $4,150 for the steel model and $12,950 for the gold. (Click on watch photos for larger images.)

The Highlands is JEANRICHARD's "adventure"- and "exploration"-inspired watch collection, with a big, sandblasted stainless steel case (44.5 mm x 40 mm) and a notched, bidirectional rotating bezel. The case has a screw-down crown and screwed caseback and is water-resistant to 100 meters. Both the dial and the hands are coated with luminescent material, and the dial is highlighted by modern Arabic numerals and a date window at the 4:30 position. The watch's movement is the company's automatic Caliber JR60, which has a 42-hour power reserve. The watch's "outdoorsy" look is completed by the sturdy, khaki-colored leather strap with a folding clasp. Price: $2,450.

Finally, there is the Aquascope, the brand's divers' collection, also powered by Caliber JR60 and outfitted in a black-PVD-coated stainless steel case with a rotating aluminum bezel. The cushion-shaped case (44.5 mm x 40 mm) has two integrated, screw-down crowns on either side. The black dial contrasts with the luminescent hands and Arabic-numeral hour markers, as well as with the red central seconds hand. The Aquascope is water-resistant to 300 meters and comes on a black, natural rubber strap with steel folding buckle. There is also a version with a polished stainless steel case. Price: $2,850.
