Girard-Perregaux 1966 Annual Calendar and Equation of Time

GP Annual Calendar and Equation of Time

The La Chaux-de-Fonds Manufacture has unveiled a white gold version of the annual calendar and equation of time from its Girard-Perregaux 1966 collection. This model incorporates a useful annual calendar that takes account of the lengths of the months, save February. Also on board is an equation of time, indicating the difference between the true solar time and the mean time, or meridian time.

The functions are displayed on the dial in an original yet highly readable way. As an added touch of sophistication, the calendar can be corrected by turning the crown in either direction. This makes correction easier, and the absence of a corrector on the case leaves its curves intact. The transparent caseback allows a view into the architecture imagined and executed by the watchmakers in La Chaux-de-Fonds, including the Microvar variable inertia balance.

Girard-Perregaux Microvar variable inertia balance
The result of Girard-Perregaux’s chronometric research, the Microvar balance features six adjustable screws and two balance weights on its rim, used respectively to set the balance’s equilibrium and enable fine adjustment of the movement rate. This exclusive development ensures increased precision and more stable adjustment.

Microvar balance
Glucydur balance wheel
6 external gold screws for setting the balance’s equilibrium and general setting of the rate
2 Glucydur balance weights for fine adjustments of the rate (fine adjustment range +/- 40 seconds per day)
1 eccentric for fine adjustment of the beat
