Zenith Gives the Defy Skyline Chronograph a Bold New Edge in Black Ceramic

Zenith expands the Defy Skyline Chronograph collection with an all-black ceramic edition that underscores the model’s architectural design and high-frequency chronograph pedigree.

The Zenith Defy Skyline Chronograph returns with a striking new look at this year's LMVH Watch Week, now rendered entirely in black ceramic. After making its full-ceramic debut in 2025 with a trio of blue-toned anniversary editions celebrating Zenith’s 160 years of watchmaking, the chronograph adopts a deeper, more urban character. The monochrome black execution in a 42mm case size sharpens the watch’s faceted geometry and reinforces its contemporary presence, aligning with the Defy Skyline’s city-inspired design language. Chosen for both its performance and aesthetics, ceramic brings a distinctive tactile and visual quality to the watch. Lightweight, highly scratch-resistant, and smooth to the touch, the material is colored throughout rather than coated, ensuring lasting depth and intensity. In black, it accentuates the angular case and integrated bracelet, giving the Defy Skyline Chronograph a sculptural feel while highlighting the crisp transitions between polished and satin-finished surfaces.

The dial echoes this sense of depth with a gradient finish that shifts from a lighter center to a darker edge, evoking the play of light and shadow across a modern skyline. An engraved four-pointed star motif, a signature of the Defy Skyline collection, structures the background, while the three chronograph counters feature concentric detailing that adds visual rhythm. Faceted hands and applied hour markers filled with luminescent material ensure legibility, day or night.

Powering the watch is the El Primero 3600, a modern evolution of Zenith’s legendary high-frequency chronograph movement. Operating at 5 Hz, it measures and displays elapsed time to 1/10th of a second, with the central chronograph hand completing a full rotation every 10 seconds. The movement’s technical sophistication is visible through the sapphire case back, revealing details such as the blued column wheel and star-shaped rotor, along with a power reserve of 60 hours.

Practical versatility remains a defining feature of the Defy Skyline Chronograph, which is water-resistant to 100 meters. An integrated quick strap-change system allows the wearer to switch seamlessly between the black ceramic bracelet and the included patterned black rubber strap. Pricing is marked at $22,600.
