More than five decades after the debut of the original Chronograph I, Porsche Design presents the Chronograph 1 – All Titanium Numbered Edition. The timepiece follows the Chronograph 1 – 1975 Limited Edition introduced in 2025 and marks the second recent reinterpretation of the design in uncoated titanium and is available for general purchase rather than limited to buyers of specific Porsche vehicles. The new titanium model is produced at Porsche Design’s new facility in Grenchen in a limited series of up to 1,000 pieces per year, each individually numbered on the case back.

Both recent editions reference the 1975 version of the Chronograph I, which combined a black dial with an uncoated stainless-steel case— an evolution of the all-black original introduced in 1972 by Prof. Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. It was conceived as a functional instrument, drawing visual cues from the dashboard of the Porsche 911 and prioritizing legibility. The Chronograph I defied convention and established a new standard in both function and design. Three years later, the design evolved: F. A. Porsche paired the deep-black dial with a brushed, uncoated stainless-steel case whose matte finish minimized reflections. The result was a functional elegance— understated, distinctive, and robust— that became the basis for special military-issue models. These watches were sought-after by elite units of international air and naval forces, including the U.S. Air Force and the Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces), as well as by passionate collectors worldwide. The new edition continues this approach with a glass bead-blasted titanium case and matching bracelet. The use of uncoated titanium also refers to a milestone from 1980, when Porsche Design introduced one of the first wristwatches made entirely from the material, emphasizing its low weight, durability, and resistance to corrosion. The C hronograph 1 – All Titanium Numbered Edition measures 40.8mm in diameter and 14.15mm in height and is water-resistant to ten bar.

The dial remains consistent with the model’s origins: matte black with high-contrast white numerals and indices. Superluminova on markers and hands ensures visibility in low light, while a redesigned minute hand with a distinctive tip improves readability along the outer track. A tachymeter scale on the rehaut for measuring speed reinforces the instrument-like character. There's also a bilingual day-date display on board.

Powering the watch is the automatic caliber WERK 01.140, a chronometer-certified movement tested by the COSC. Visible through the sapphire crystal case back, the movement features a winding rotor inspired by the Porsche Design Icon, recalling the engineered precision and dynamic forms associated with sports car components. The case back itself bears the individual numbering of each watch, a detail that underscores the limited-production character, not unlike the serialized builds of high-performance automotive models.
