Over seven decades since it first took flight, the Navitimer remains a defining symbol of aviation-inspired watchmaking. This February 2026 in New York, Breitling unveils the Navitimer B01 Chronograph 43 North American Limited Edition, a refined, region-exclusive interpretation, limited to just 300 pieces and available only in the United States and Canada.

First introduced in 1952, the Navitimer was conceived by Willy Breitling as a wrist-worn instrument for pilots, complete with a circular slide rule capable of performing crucial flight calculations. In 1954, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) adopted it as its official timepiece, placing its winged logo at 12 o’clock and cementing the “navigation timer” as the aviator’s chronograph of choice. During the golden age of civil aviation, it accompanied airline captains across continents, and even ventured into space in 1962 on the wrist of astronaut Scott Carpenter. Cultural icons including Miles Davis and Serge Gainsbourg further broadened its appeal, proving the Navitimer’s charisma extended well beyond the cockpit.

The new North American Limited Edition retains the unmistakable DNA: the circular slide rule, here levelled, baton indexes, tri-compax chronograph layout, and notched bezel. Its silver dial with contrasting black subdials enhances legibility while reinforcing the classic reverse-panda aesthetic. Notably, the AOPA wings return to their original position at 12 o’clock, a nostalgic touch that will resonate with purists.
