Seiko Celebrates 145 Years with Six Timepieces in Edo Murasaki
A color reflecting Tokyo’s heritage
Cheers to 145 Years
Seiko is celebrating its 145th anniversary by looking firmly toward the future. The third phase of the brand’s anniversary program introduces six limited-edition timepieces designed to capture a sense of creativity, optimism, and anticipation for what lies ahead. Their common thread is an unusual and deeply rooted Japanese color: Edo Murasaki. For centuries, the distinctive shade of purple has been associated with the culture of Edo, the historic name for present-day Tokyo. Seiko gives Edo Murasaki a contemporary expression across the new anniversary editions, using the color to symbolize creativity, new ideas, and the desire to continually rethink the familiar. The result is a collection that brings together Japanese cultural heritage and a forward-looking approach to design. It will be available from October 2026.

SeikoThe first of the six anniversary timepieces brings the distinctive Edo Murasaki color to Seiko’s modern Alpinist, a three-hand field watch with a rotating compass inner ring. The model draws on the spirit of the Laurel Alpinist, Seiko’s first sports watch, which was introduced in 1959. Originally developed with outdoor use in mind, the Alpinist has evolved into a versatile sports watch that combines practical functionality with a touch of vintage elegance. Its steel case measures 39.5mm in diameter, 12.7mm in thickness, and 46.4mm from lug to lug. A super-hard coating helps protect the case, while the sapphire crystal has an anti-reflective coating on its inner surface. LumiBrite on the hands and hour markers ensures legibility in low-light conditions. The watch is worn on a cow-leather strap secured by a three-fold clasp with push-button release.
Powering the Alpinist is Seiko’s signature automatic Caliber 6R55, which comes to life through the exhibition case back. The movement provides approximately 72 hours of power reserve. Its stated precision is +25 to -15 seconds per day, while a stop-seconds function allows the time to be set accurately.
The Prospex Land Alpinist Seiko 145th Anniversary Limited Edition HBC006J1 is water-resistant to 20 bar and offers magnetic resistance to 4,800 A/m. Limited to 7,000 pieces, it retails for $900.

The second anniversary timepiece brings the spirit of Japanese cocktail culture to Seiko’s Presage Cocktail Time collection. The elegant GMT watch draws inspiration from the Edo Murasaki cocktail, an original creation developed in collaboration with Hisashi Kishi, owner and head bartender of the renowned Star Bar in Tokyo’s Ginza district, where Seiko is headquartered. The watch’s finely textured dial features the distinctive radial pattern characteristic of the Presage Cocktail Time series, here bathed in a deep purple tone. The gold-colored Seiko logo and skeletonized GMT hand add a sophisticated contrast. The steel case measures 40.5mm in diameter, 12.8 mm in thickness, and 47.5mm from lug to lug. Here too a box-shaped Hardlex crystal protects the dial, while the transparent case back offers a view of the mechanical movement inside. The watch is fitted with a five-row bracelet.
Powering the Presage Cocktail Time GMT Seiko 145th Anniversary Limited Edition HCB006J1 is Seiko’s automatic Caliber 4R34, which provides approximately 41 hours of power reserve and features a stop-seconds mechanism for precise time setting. As is typical for Seiko, the movement is protected against magnetic fields of 4,800 A/m. Limited to 6,000 pieces worldwide, the watch has a price tag of $625.
