Watches for America at 250: Breitling, Bulova, Benrus, and Praesidus Mark a Historic Anniversary

As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary on July 4th tomorrow, watchmakers are joining the celebration with a new generation of commemorative timepieces. Some look to the nation’s founding ideals, others to its military heritage, and some simply capture the enduring appeal of red, white, and blue on the wrist. Together, these watches offer a fascinating snapshot of how horology intersects with American history at a milestone few living generations will witness.

Breitling Avenger America250 Limited Editions

Breitling leans into its aviation heritage with two US-exclusive Avenger models created specifically for the anniversary in partnership with America250. Both models draw on the Avenger collection's military-aviation roots and adopt a distinctly patriotic palette, pairing blue dials with red-accented straps and special commemorative engravings. They will be available exclusively in the United States. The Avenger Automatic 42 America250 Limited Edition is produced in 250 pieces and pairs a blue dial with a 42mm steel case and blue calfskin strap accented by red stitching. Its solid case back carries an engraving of the Liberty Bell alongside the historic inscription: “Proclaim Liberty Throughout All the Land Unto All the Inhabitants Thereof.” Additional engravings include the official America250 logo, “ONE OF 250,” and “JULY 4, 1776.”

Behind it ticks the COSC-certified self-winding Breitling Caliber 17. Paced at 28,800 a/h, it offers a power reserve of 38 hours. Water-resistant to 300 meters, the Avenger Automatic 42 America250 is priced at $5,100.

The more exclusive Avenger B01 Chronograph 42 America250 Limited Edition is limited to just 50 pieces. Also water-resistant to 300 meters, the watch combines a 42mm black ceramic case with a blue dial, contrasting white sub dials and red chronograph hands, creating a modern interpretation of patriotic theme. Like the automatic variant, it features the Avenger collection’s hallmark rider-tab bezel, oversized crown, and protective crown guards, reinforcing the model’s military aviation heritage and navigation-focused design.

Through the sapphire case back, the COSC-certified Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01 is visible. The column-wheel chronograph movement offers a power reserve of more than 70 hours. The titanium outer ring is engraved with 50 stars and the inscription “ONE OF 50,” emphasizing the strict limitation. There is also the official America250 logo on the sapphire pane. Bulova x Sail4th 250 Limited Edition

Few watch brands have a more direct connection to New York than Bulova. Founded in 1875 by Joseph Bulova, the company opened its first store on Maiden Lane in Lower Manhattan and has remained closely tied to the city ever since. For America’s 250th anniversary, the brand is leaning into that heritage through a partnership with Sail4th 250, the nonprofit organization behind the international Tall Ship parade and festival taking place in New York and New Jersey from July 3 to 8, 2026.

The partnership carries both historical and symbolic weight. Sail4th 250 will bring together tall ships from around the world as part of a broader national celebration of the Semiquincentennial, while Bulova’s own history includes a maritime connection from the start: the company’s first advertisement featured a clipper ship. As part of the collaboration, Bulova will introduce a limited-edition co-branded timepiece created specifically for the occasion, honoring America’s maritime heritage and the brand’s long-standing connection to precision timekeeping.

Bulova will also have a presence across Sail4th 250 branded content, hospitality suites, and VIP viewing areas for the Parade of Sail and International Naval Review. The brand is also set to participate in The Promise of Liberty Collection and Exhibition at the South Street Seaport Museum, which will run from April 1 through August 30, 2026, and showcase rare original founding documents, including the Constitution of the United States, the Bill of Rights, and the Declaration of Independence.

Benrus #3061 250th Anniversary Limited Edition 

Among the brands marking America’s 250th anniversary, Benrus brings a uniquely authentic perspective. Founded in New York in 1921, the company became one of the most recognizable American watch names of the 20th century, supplying timepieces to military personnel, adventurers, and professionals while building a reputation for reliable, purpose-driven watchmaking. 

The Benrus #3061 250th Anniversary Limited Edition is housed in a 39.5mm stainless-steel case with a screw-down crown, offering classic proportions and everyday versatility. Among the watch’s most distinctive details is a subtle reference to the nation’s founding. An excerpt from the Declaration of Independence is incorporated into the dial design, serving as a discreet reminder of the ideals and aspirations that shaped the United States 250 years ago. Reinforcing the patriotic theme, ten stars mark the hours. Faceted hands with luminous inserts enhance legibility while contributing to the watch’s vintage-inspired character. Protected by a double-domed sapphire crystal, the dial is framed by a slim polished bezel that gives the composition ample room to unfold, drawing attention to its thoughtful details and allowing the historical references to take center stage.

Turning the watch over reveals an exhibition sapphire caseback engraved with “One of 250,” highlighting the exclusivity of the limited edition while offering a view of the movement within. Power comes from the proven Swiss ETA 2892 automatic caliber, which delivers a power reserve of approximately 42 hours. With water resistance rated to 10 ATM and a tan leather strap that complements its vintage-inspired character, the watch is designed to accompany its owner well beyond the anniversary year. Praesidus x U.S. Army

While not a dedicated anniversary release, Praesidus arrives at a fitting moment with its newly announced officially licensed U.S. Army watch program. The brand, founded in 2019 to honor military service members and veterans, has been granted a license to produce watches featuring official U.S. Army insignia, typography, and branding. What makes the program especially distinctive is its rank-progression system: interchangeable fabric rank tabs can be added to the strap as a service member advances through the ranks, turning the watch into a personal record of military service.

The initial collection includes automatic models with 42 mm stainless-steel cases and NH35 movements and quartz field models in 38 mm stainless-steel cases with VH31 movements. Each feature a 10 ATM water resistance, assembly in the Arizona, and customization options for military personnel, including unit insignia and case back engraving

Among the models introduced under the new U.S. Army license is the A-11 U.S. Army Topo Green Automatic, a watch that combines classic military field-watch styling with modern practicality. The design traces its roots to the original A-11, a standardized wristwatch commissioned by the U.S. War Department in 1941 for American servicemen during World War II. Celebrated for its durability, clarity, and no-nonsense functionality, the A-11 became one of the defining military watches of the era. The  A-11 U.S. Army Topo Green Automatic carries that legacy forward, reinterpreting a historic military tool watch for a new generation while remaining true to the simplicity, utility, and reliability that made the original an enduring icon.

The watch's most striking feature is a military-green dial decorated with a topographic pattern inspired by terrain maps and navigation charts, a fitting nod to the environments in which soldiers operate. Despite this contemporary interpretation, the watch remains faithful to the clean, highly legible design principles that defined the original A-11 specification. Large Arabic numerals, a railroad-style minute track, and sword-shaped hands ensure excellent readability at a glance, echoing the purposeful simplicity of the wartime original. 

The watch is powered by the TMI NH35 automatic movement. It is housed in a 42mm steel case with an upgraded screw-down crown and water resistance to 330 feet (100 meters). Pricing is marked at $335.

Bremont Terra Nova Jumping Hour 1776

Bremont celebrates the Semiquincentennial through a watch that reflects the close ties between the United States and the British brand. Created specifically for the American market, the Terra Nova Jumping Hour 1776 is limited to 250 pieces and arrives ahead of Independence Day as a tribute to the nation's 250th anniversary. The release is particularly significant for Bremont, whose fastest-growing market is the United States. Developed in collaboration with the brand's U.S. team, the limited edition builds on the Terra Nova Jumping Hour introduced in 2025, a model that quickly became one of the standout pieces in Bremont's field-watch collection thanks to its distinctive jumping-hour display and proprietary movement.

The anniversary edition transforms the Terra Nova's military-inspired design through a patriotic palette of red, white, and blue. Its richly textured blue grained dial features a special "1776" inscription rendered in a script inspired by the handwriting of Timothy Matlack, the scribe of the original Declaration of Independence. A star motif accents the minute track, while red triangular markers at 3 and 9 o'clock reinforce the celebratory theme. The roulette-style hour disc displays alternating red and black numerals, complemented by applied luminous indexes, a Supleruminova-filled jumping-hour numeral, and a central running seconds hand coated entirely in Superluminova.

The watch is housed in Bremont's signature Terra Nova cushion-shaped case crafted from corrosion-resistant 904L stainless steel with alternating satin-brushed and polished surfaces. Measuring 40.5mm in diameter, 47mm in length, and just 10.15mm thick, the case offers contemporary proportions while maintaining a slim profile on the wrist. A flat anti-reflective sapphire crystal protects the dial, while water resistance is rated to 100 meters.

Inside beats the BC634AH automatic movement, delivering a power reserve of 56 hours. The decorated caseback features an eagle in full flight above a stars-and-stripes motif and is individually numbered from 1 to 250, emphasizing the exclusivity of the edition.

Limited to 250 pieces, the Terra Nova Jumping Hour 1776 is available on a blue textured strap for $4,300 or a matching 904L stainless-steel bracelet for $4,600.
