Retro Charm in Pastel: Seiko Introduces New Presage Style 60’s Models

Seiko is expanding its popular Presage collection with three new models that channel the spirit of the 1960s. While inspired by this iconic decade, the Presage Style 60’s watches blend timeless design, soft tones, and metallic accents to create a look that feels distinctly modern.

The 1960s were a decade of transformation— socially, culturally, and technologically. In the world of horology, it was a time of innovation and bold design. Mechanical watches, especially chronographs, flourished, and legendary brands like Rolex, Omega, and Heuer solidified their reputations with models that would go on to become icons. Think of the Omega Speedmaster, famously worn during the first moon landing in 1969, or the race to develop the first automatic chronograph— a challenge in which Seiko played a key role.

Seiko helped revolutionize the era with groundbreaking technology and affordable precision. In 1964, the brand introduced Japan’s first wristwatch with a chronograph function, just in time for the Tokyo Olympic Games, where Seiko also served as the official timekeeper. The design was strikingly different from traditional chronographs, foregoing sub dials for a central seconds counter and a bi-directional rotating bezel to measure elapsed minutes. By omitting a small running seconds display, the watch retained a clean three-hand aesthetic.

With the new Presage Style 60’s models—SRPL71, SRPL73, and SRPL75—Seiko reimagines the distinctive aesthetic of its 60s-era bestsellers for today’s audience. The softly curved aluminum bezel, faceted hour markers, and bold hands (coated with LumiBrite) all pay homage to vintage Seiko designs. There's a date window added, however, that neatly at six o'clock, adding symmetry to the dial.

The dials themselves are covered by domed Hardlex glass and come in colors inspired by the soft pastels and warm tones popular in 60s fashion and interiors: Ice Green (SRPL71J1), Silvery Violet (SRPL73J1), and Golden Yellow (SRPL75J1). These nuanced shades capture the retro essence with a refined, modern flair.

All three models feature stainless steel cases measuring 39.5mm in diameter and 12mm in height. They are water-resistant up to 50 meters and equipped with an exhibition case back that reveals the in-house automatic caliber 4R35. This movement offers a 41-hour power reserve and a hacking seconds function for precise time-setting.

The SRPL71 and SRPL73 come with stainless steel bracelets and deployant clasps with safety push-buttons. The SRPL75 is fitted with a leather strap, also featuring a deployant clasp, safety push-button, and quick-release mechanism.

The Seiko Presage Style 60’s SRPL71, SRPL73, and SRPL75 will be available starting May 2025, with a retail price of $895.
