Hermès Launches New Variations of the Le Temps Suspendu

In a world that is often fast-paced, demanding, and filled with constant movement, time can sometimes feel like an overwhelming force that we're constantly trying to keep up with. From the tick of the clock to the schedules that govern our lives, it’s easy to feel as though time is slipping through our fingers. On the other hand, there are precious times when we want to extend the moment. In both instances we might find ourselves wishing for a pause button, a way to creating a moment of tranquility and calm. Obviously, there is no way to escape time.

However, in 2011, Hermès wowed us with a charming watch that allows the wearer to "suspend" time, creating an intriguing play on the traditional notion of how it is perceived. In the brand's signature elegant and refined style, the innovative complication, which was brought to life in a collaboration with the Swiss specialist company Agenhor, halts the indication of time and the retrograde date, which is displayed between 4 and 6 o'clock. By pushing the button on the left side, the hour and minute hands will stop at 12 o'clock and the retrograde hand will disappear. The watch seems to "take a break," creating the illusion that it has vanished. By pushing the button again, though, the hands will return and indicate the actual time and date.

Arceau Le temps suspendu

At this year's Watches and Wonders, Hermès unveiled new reinterpretations of the 2011 model with an updated aesthetics. The Arceau Le temps suspendu features a slender 42 mm case, designed by Henri d’Origny in 1978, which is available in white and pink gold. It frames an open-worked dial revealing the exclusive “Time suspended” module and fascinating details of the movement. The watch face is available in three intriguing color options, sunburst blue, sunburst brun désert (a beige hue), and sunburst rouge sellier, a stunning burgundy-like shade.

At the heart of the tree iterations is the self-winding manufacture Hermès H1837 caliber with a 45-hour power. The transparent case back displays the beautiful finishing and decorations, such as a circular-grained and snailed mainplate, satin-brushed bridges and oscillating weight, and a sprinkling of Hermès Hs.

Hermès Cut Le Temps Suspendu

In addition, Hermès presents the stunning complication with a new twist in the new Hermès Cut Le Temps Suspendu. The Hermès Cut was originally unveiled at last year's Watches and Wonders as a casual ladies' collection that is distinguished by its “circle within a circle” case. Offered in three variants, a limited pink gold with a burgundy dial, pink gold with a silver tone dial and a diamond iteration, the Hermès Cut Le Temps Suspendu uses the concept of the hour and minute hand stop-and-reset function, but introduces a small seconds display. However, the Hermès H1912 movement drives the small seconds hand backwards.
