Breitling Unveils Top Time B31 with New In-House Movement

Breitling introduces the Top Time B31, a three-hand timepiece that brings the 1960's Top Time collection back to its roots. Built for speed and style, it became a favorite among motorsport enthusiasts, fashion icons, and even secret agents— James Bond famously wore a Q-modified Top Time in "Thunderball" (1965). As one of the first chronographs designed to appeal to both men and women, its bold, graphic designs took over magazine pages and the silver screen.

It certainly appeals to Oscar nominated actor Austin Butler who has joined the Swiss watchmaker as their latest brand ambassador–making his debut in the brand's new Top Time campaign.

“Breitling, for me, is about adventure and pushing the limits of what’s possible. The Top Time speaks to the way I’ve always wanted to live my life: free and ready to rock ‘n’ roll. It’s a thrill to be part of the squad.”

The launch of this new model is accompanied by the release of the Breitling Caliber B31, the brand’s first exclusive manufacture three-hand movement. The self-winding caliber is paced at 28,800 a/h or 4 hertz, offers a 78-hours power reserve and comes—like all Breitling movements—with a COSC chronometer certificate.

With a classic 38 mm size, the Top Time B31 strikes the balance between heritage proportions and modern design. Crafted from stainless steel, the case is water-resistant to 100 meters and equipped with an exhibition back. A thin profile was top of mind, ensuring a comfortable fit that hugs the wrist. Two key features make this possible: tapered lugs and the crystal with two curved tiers, refining the profile for a smooth, streamlined look.

As for the dial, the Top Time B31 retains the bold spirit of its predecessors but reimagines it as a refined, time-only layout that is easy to read. It is furnished with applied indexes and a magnified date aperture at 3 o'clock. The bright orange seconds hand adds a pop of color to the dial, which is available in three distinct colorways: white on blue, black on green, and sky blue on white.

“This is watchmaking distilled to its essentials – pure timekeeping, easy wearability, and distinct character

The Top Time B31 is paired with either a perforated leather strap—reminiscent of the collection’s racing heritage—or a stainless-steel bracelet with a unique three-row design and asymmetrical center link, giving the watch a sporty, yet elegant, feel. Pricing is marked at $5,600 and $5,900.
