Blancpain Drops Fifty Fathoms Automatique 42mm in Steel as Part of the Permanent Collection
Born from an icon that has profoundly shaped the history of diver's watches, the Fifty Fathoms Automatique 42mm in polished stainless steel marks a new chapter in Blancpain's legacy. Following the success of the 2023 limited edition, the Fifty Fathoms 70th Anniversary Act 1, and the brushed grade 23 titanium and red gold versions launched last year, this new model will become a part of brand’s permanent collection.
Taking its design cues from the first Fifty Fathoms watch introduced in the 1950s, and its updated, modern-day descendants that debuted in 2007, the 300-meter water-resistant timepieces boasts a sunburst black dial and a ratcheting unidirectional divers’ bezel with a scratch-proof domed insert made of sapphire. The dial’s hour markers and hands are coated with Super-LumiNova for easy legibility in low light or deep beneath the waves. A date window — an indicator first added to the Fifty Fathoms in the 2007 update — occupies the 4:30 position.
Beating at the heart of the new Fifty Fathoms Automatique is Caliber 1315, with a 5-day power reserve (120 hours) thanks to three series-coupled barrels. The self-winding movement is equipped with an 18K red gold oscillating weight – featuring NAC treatment – whose design is inspired by the rotor of the historical 1953 version and a balance spring made of silicon. Its key properties — low density that makes it particularly light, strong shock-resistance, and imperviousness to magnetic fields — provide optimal precision under all conditions.
The Fifty Fathoms retails for $18,000 on a bracelet, for $16,800 on a rubber strap and sail cloth strap with a deployant clasp and for $15,500 with a pin buckle, as well as for $15,500 on a NATO strap.
