Showing at WatchTime New York 2024: Blancpain Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet Phases de Lune
Only four days away, the excitement in the New York watch community is palpable for the start of WatchTime New York 2024. Taking place this Friday, October 18th to Sunday October 20th at Manhattan’s Gotham Hall, the event will feature over thirty-five incredible brands, each highlighting some of the most interesting and important timepieces of the year. Among them will be Blancpain, which will be highlighting the new Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet Phases de Lune. The watch joins the brand’s famed Fifty Fathoms collection as a new ceramic-clad, moonphase-equipped dive watch, blending the sporty heritage of the series with a sophisticated complication and material.
The 43.6mm case of the new Bathyscaphe is crafted from cutting-edge black ceramic, a material that is both highly durable and lightweight, being 25% lighter than stainless steel while five times harder. The case is finished with satin-brushed surfaces, accentuating its bold, assertive look. The unidirectional rotating bezel matches the hues of the case, featuring accents of a Liquidmetal material to provide a contrasting grey tone against the deep noir of the rest of the case.
The dial of the Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet Phases de Lune is an eye-catching sunray-brushed blue, featuring a subtle gradient that shifts with the light. A triple calendar display, with an analog date window, is quickly seen at a glance, while the moon-phase complication adds depth and visual interest at 6 o’clock. Lume-filled hands and hour markers ensure excellent legibility, with each formatted in a familiar Bathyscaphe style. Touches of red on the seconds pointer and date hand add contrast and a bit of cheekiness to the look.
At the heart of the watch is the Blancpain caliber 6654.P4. This automatic movement offers a 72-hour power reserve on account of its double barrels, and features a silicon balance-spring, minimizing the effects of magnetism on the watch’s accuracy. The movement is notably dubbed as “secure,” meaning the moon-phase and calendar complications can be adjusted easily and without the risk of damage to the sensitive mechanics powering them.
The finely decorated movement is visible through the sapphire crystal caseback, showcasing its traditional watchmaking finishes such as beveling, circular graining, and snailing.
The Blancpain Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet Phases de Lune is available with various strap options, including the new black ceramic bracelet, as well as NATO and sailcloth alternatives. Pricing is marked at $26,000 on the ceramic bracelet and at $18,400 when equipped with the NATO or sailcloth strap.
