Seiko Updates the 5 Sports Field Series with a New Design, New Sizes, and a Compass Bezel

A familiar field watch silhouette, reworked with sharper proportions and a new 41 mm case size: the new Seiko 5 Sports Field Series refines the everyday tool watch with subtle design updates, a compass bezel, and the reliable Caliber 4R36 automatic movement.

The field watch concept has been a cornerstone of the Seiko 5 Sports family since the brand brought it back in 2019. With the new 5 Sports Field Series, Seiko refines the design language and introduces a new 41-mm case size that sits between the existing 36, 39, and 42-mm formats. At the center of the update is the redesigned case architecture. The 41mm stainless steel case gives the watches a more contemporary stance, while maintaining the robust, functional proportions expected from a field-oriented design. A double-sided rotating compass bezel adds a practical layer, referencing historical Seiko 5 Sports models while giving the watch a more technical, purpose-driven feel.

The dial design remains intentionally restrained. Large Arabic numerals filled with the brand's LumiBrite luminescent material ensure strong legibility, while a clean outer track adds visual structure. Not to be missed is the weekday and date indication at 3 o’clock, one of the five defining requirements established when Seiko first introduced the Seiko 5 Sports line in the early 1960s.

Seiko launches the series in four variations, split across bracelet and textile strap executions. The HDB006K1 and HDB007K1 come on a newly developed bracelet, giving the watches a more solid, urban character. The HDB008K1 and HDB009K1 are equipped with a double-layer nylon strap, designed for durability and outdoor use. Colorways range from classic black and crisp white to khaki and brown tones, each emphasizing a slightly different interpretation of the same functional base design.

All models are powered by the Seiko Caliber 4R36 automatic movement with manual winding capability and a hacking seconds function. The movement offers a power reserve of more than 41 hours and is equipped with Seiko’s Magic Lever system for efficient winding.

The watches feature Hardlex crystal, a screw-down case back, and water resistance up to 10 bar, reinforcing their everyday tool-watch positioning. Prices remain firmly in accessible territory, with the steel-bracelet versions at $400 and the textile models at $385, available from June 2026.
