Union Glashütte, a German company deeply rooted in the tradition of the eponymous horological metropolis, has a solid reputation for producing sports watches that embody a harmonious blend of robust performance, precision, and attention to detail. They feature resilient materials like stainless steel 316L, carbon, and ceramic, a water resistance to 100 meters and are equipped with reliable self-winding movements. They offer a comfortable power reserve of above 60 hours and boast a silicon hairspring that protects against magnetic fields. The effects of magnetic fields on movements – especially on the balance spring – can be quite significant and cause a loss of several seconds of accuracy per day. The latest example to amplify this ethos is the Belisar Chronograph Sport.

Its 43mm stainless steel 316L case, water-resistant up to 100 meters, is enhanced with screwed-on flanks coated with DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) finish, offering extra protection in harsh conditions and against shocks. Complementing these features, the crown and pushers are engraved with steel-colored inscriptions set against black lacquer. The crown is adorned with the Union Glashütte “U,” while the chronograph pushers display "Start/Stop" and "Reset." If you're wondering what the push-piece at 10 o'clock is for, it's a date corrector. The scratch- and shock-resistant ceramic bezel features a tachymeter scale for measuring average speeds, further enhancing the watch's functionality.

However, the star of the Belisar Chronograph Sport is the black dial with its striking horizontal texture. Protected by a slightly domed, double-sided anti-reflective sapphire crystal, it is furnished with bold hour-markers and skeletonized hands coated with Super-LumiNova for readability in all light conditions. The sub dials are slightly recessed and the hour ring is grooved, adding depth to the look and feel. The yellow-tipped chronograph hands highlight the time measurement functions, while a date display at 6 o'clock adds to its practicality.

The rear side reveals the UNG-27.S1 movement in all its beauty. This self-winding caliber with a silicon hairspring beats at 4 Hz and boasts a power reserve of 65 hours. The screw-down sapphire case back showcases perlage, blued screws and the partially skeletonized Union oscillating mass.
