Solar Energy Enters the Pontos Collection

Long days, bright sunlight, and time spent on and around the water define the season—and the new Pontos S Solar models are designed precisely for that environment. Maurice Lacroix introduces solar-powered timekeeping to its sport-focused Pontos line for the first time, offering both a three-hand watch and a chronograph. Both models are built for active use, combining durable construction with a clean, modern design language and colorful accents that emphasize their technical character.

Inside the Pontos S Solar beats the Ronda 215 solar quartz movement, while the chronograph version is powered by the Ronda 2040.D. Both calibers are developed in Switzerland and convert light into energy, eliminating the need for regular battery changes. Once fully charged, the three-hand model offers a power reserve of up to eight months, while the chronograph runs for up to five months. According to the brand, the battery will only need replacement after more than ten years of use.

The semi-transparent dials feature a smoky, graded effect with approximately 20 to 30 percent translucency, allowing sufficient light to reach the solar cells beneath. For readability in all conditions, Superluminova is applied to the bold indices and hands. Two luminescent colors enhance legibility and orientation: blue highlights the minutes hand and the first 15 minutes of the bezel, while green is used for the hours hand, hour markers, and remaining indications.

The chronograph places its date display at 6 o’clock, while the three-hand version positions it at 3 o’clock. Dial colors include black and blue executions, alongside versions with fluorescent orange accents for a more expressive, high-contrast look across rehaut, hands, and chronograph elements.

Case Architecture and Sport-Proof Credentials

Both models share a case design measuring 42mm in diameter and 13mm in height. Selected versions feature a black or gunmetal DLC-coated stainless steel case for enhanced durability and a more technical appearance. A unidirectional rotating aluminum bezel, a screw-down crown with protective guards, and 200-meter water resistance underline the watches’ strong sports credentials. The screw-down case back is engraved with a nautical compass and wave motif, reinforcing the maritime theme.

Straps and Pricing

All models feature an easy-change strap system, allowing tool-free switching between configurations. Options include FKM rubber straps in black, blue, or fluorescent orange, as well as a five-row stainless steel bracelet with satin-brushed and polished links.

Pricing for the Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Solar starts at CHF 990 (approximately $1,090) with a rubber strap, CHF 1,090 (approximately $1,200) on stainless steel, and CHF 1,250 (approximately $1,380) for the version with a green fluorescent rubber strap.

And the Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Solar Chronograph is priced from CHF 1,290 (approximately $1,420) on rubber, CHF 1,390 (approximately $1,530) on steel, and CHF 1,500 (approximately $1,650) for the orange fluorescent rubber version.
