Albert Pujols with his Reactor Southern California-based Reactor, maker of durable and progressive sport watches, has designed a special one-of-a-kind Diamond Nucleus watch to commemorate St. Louis Cardinals star first baseman Albert Pujols’ stellar 2008 season. Considered one of the sport’s best players, Pujols was voted the National League’s Most Valuable Player in 2008. Reactor presented the special watch, featuring the Cardinals logo and Pujols’s #5 on the dial, together with 2.25 carats of flawless VS1 diamonds on the bezel, to Albert at a Cardinals home game the week after the All-Star game. In addition, the company produced a second matching watch, which will be donated to the Pujols Family Foundation and auctioned off to raise funds for the charity. A Foundation spokesman believes the watch will bring between $35,000 and $40,000. Albert Pujols and his Diamond Nucleus
Pujols has finished in the top 10 in the voting in each of his eight Major League seasons, and has finished in the top 4 seven times. He is the 11th player to win two National League MVP Awards, and he’s one of only three active players with a pair of MVPs. Pujols became only the third player in history to win the MVP and the prestigious Roberto Clemente Award in the same year. Bestowed annually, the Roberto Clemente Award honors the major league baseball player who combines outstanding play on the field with devoted work in the community. Through the Pujols Family Foundation, this future Hall of Famer has been able to improve the lives of children and young adults with Down Syndrome in the greater St. Louis area, as well as provide much-needed support to under privileged children in his home of the Dominican Republic. Pujols’ Diamond Nucleus Red features an oversize and uniquely shaped 50mm case constructed from solid 316L marine-grade stainless steel, and like all Reactor watches, features a triple o-ring screw-down crown system for added water resistance, secure screw bar case-to-band interface for strength, and a hardened K-1 crystal for the best balance of scratch and shatter resistance.
