A Guide to Shinola's Updated Detrola Collection
Bold color meets everyday Detroit design
Born and Raised in Detroit
Since its founding in 2011, Shinola has positioned itself as a champion of American manufacturing and design, assembling watches in Detroit while drawing inspiration from the city’s rich industrial heritage and creative energy. The brand’s philosophy centers on creating well-designed everyday products that blend accessibility, craftsmanship, and distinctive aesthetics. Its Detrola collection, introduced as a colorful and lightweight alternative to the company’s steel-cased Runwell models, embodies that approach particularly well. Now Shinola is expanding the Detrola family with four new references that introduce fresh dial treatments, new bracelet options, and a display case back for the first time in the collection.
Detrola Watch Theory Cool & Theory Warm
ShinolaArt-Inspired Color Theory Editions
The most expressive additions are the limited-production Detrola Color Theory Cool and Detrola Color Theory Warm models. Both watches feature semi-matte 3D-printed dials inspired by abstract art and color studies, transforming the Detrola into a wearable canvas. The Theory Cool presents a playful composition of blue, pink, and mint-green tones. A field of geometric triangles appears to float across the dial, creating depth and movement while emphasizing the artistic concept behind the design. Printed mint-green minute tracking, warm gray hands filled with C1 Super-LumiNova, and a mint-green central seconds hand complete the vibrant display.

Shinola Detrola Watch Theory WarmIts counterpart, the Color Theory Warm, applies the same concept through a palette of orange and complementary hues, resulting in a more energetic visual character. Both watches feature a 41mm case consisting of a stainless-steel core co-molded with polished cream-colored TR90 resin. Additional design details include wire lugs, Shinola’s signature onion-shaped crown, sapphire crystal, and quick-release rubber straps matching the respective dial colors. For the first time within this series, a clear resin caseback allows a view of the movement inside.

Detrola Watch Vapor Gold
ShinolaAlongside the art-inspired editions, Shinola is introducing two permanent Detrola models that bring a more refined appearance to the collection. Most notably, they mark the first time that core Detrola references are available on a metal bracelet. The new Detrola Vapor Gold model features a warm gold-toned sunray dial paired with applied vertically brushed numerals and brushed silver hands with C1 Superluminova. The dial’s subtle metallic sheen contrasts with the transparent polished TR90 case, while a newly developed brushed silver brick-link bracelet gives the watch a cool presence on the wrist.
Detrola Watch Cypress Green
Shinola
The Cypress Green version follows the same formula but swaps the gold dial for a deep green sunray finish. Matte alabaster numerals, brushed silver hands, and an alabaster-colored seconds hand create a softer, more understated look. Like the Color Theory editions, both models measure 41mm in diameter, feature a stainless-steel case surrounded and sapphire crystals. They are also powered by the Argonite 705 quartz movement and proudly assembled in Detroit. Pricing is marked at $595.
