The Phoenix Ascends: Introducing the G-SHOCK MR-G MRGB2000KT

Hand-engraved by a master of Japanese metalsmithing, the limited-edition MRGB2000KT unites cutting-edge MR-G engineering with centuries-old artisanal symbolism, crowned by a majestic phoenix in flight.

With the limited-edition MRGB2000KT, G-SHOCK’s MR-G line reaches a new pinnacle of artisanal expression. This exceptional timepiece is not merely engineered for ultimate toughness; it is crafted as a wearable work of Japanese metal art. At its heart is the phoenix— an auspicious symbol of good fortune, nobility, supreme happiness, and longevity— rendered in meticulous detail through traditional hand engraving. The bezel draws direct inspiration from the tsuba, the iron hand guard of a Japanese sword, long revered as both a functional component and an art object. Finished in a dark blue-green kurogane-iro hue— literally “iron color”— the bezel reflects the subtle tones iron takes on when heated. This distinctive coloration is achieved through a green DLC coating applied to titanium that has undergone a deep-layer hardening process for exceptional durability. Handcrafted by third-generation metalsmith artist Kobayashi Masao, the bezel is engraved with a phoenix, its wings spread in powerful motion. Each line is cut by hand, underscoring the individuality and artisanal integrity of every piece.

The dial ring features a refined color gradation that echoes the phoenix’s graceful flutter through the air, lending the watch a sense of movement and depth. Adding a further layer of symbolism, the four bezel screws are set with emeralds— stones traditionally associated with wisdom and clarity of vision. Together, these details form one of the most luxurious and expressive designs ever seen in the MR-G collection.

Measuring 54.7 × 49.8 × 16.9mm, the titanium case is finished with a distinctive crystallized pattern created when pure titanium is heat-treated, evoking the shimmering nie structures found along the blade of a Japanese sword. As with the bezel, the case benefits from deep-layer hardening, enhancing surface strength, and is coated with brown AIP (Arc Ion Plating) to achieve a warm, coppery tone. To complement the case, the MRGB2000KT is fitted with a dark green Dura Soft rubber strap. According to G-SHOCK, it is resistant to discoloration, staining, and ageing. The titanium clasp mirrors the case and bezel finishes, featuring the same deep-layer hardening process and brown AIP coating for visual and material harmony.

World time, dual time, stopwatch, countdown timer, and power-saving functions ensure precise everyday performance. Pricing is marked at $8,000.
