Earlier this month, Patek Philippe introduced 14 new wristwatches, with the technical highlight being the extraordinary Quadruple Complication. This extremely complex haute-horlogerie timepiece stays true to its name, featuring a minute repeater, a complicated mono-pusher split-seconds chronograph, and an instantaneous perpetual calendar. A showcase of the Geneva-based manufacture's technical prowess, the Ref. 5308G-001 is presented in a fully polished 42mm white gold case with an ice-blue sunburst dial combining elegance and legibility.

Watch connoisseurs may already be familiar with this model as Patek Philippe first unveiled a version during the "Watch Art" exhibition in Tokyo in 2023. The new edition in white gold will become a part of the current Patek Philippe collection and replace the Triple Complication introduced in 2011 with minute repeater, chronograph and instantaneous perpetual calendar complications.

The addition of a particularly energy-consuming split-seconds mechanism represented a real challenge for Patek Philippe's engineers, which they overcame with the development of the new self-winding caliber R CHR 27 PS QI, comprising 799 components. A stunning example of miniaturization and energy management, the movement is notable for several innovations:

  • A barrel with increased torque
  • A platinum micro-rotor to enhance winding efficiency
  • An anti-backlash clutch wheel, avoiding any vibration of the chronograph sweep-seconds hand eliminates friction of the chronograph wheel and thereby to safes energy
  • An isolation system of the split-seconds hand, a mechanism that raises the split-seconds lever when the split-seconds hand is stopped instead of allowing it to continue its course around the chronograph heart-piece, and thereby reduces the consumption of energy

The instantaneous perpetual calendar displays the day, date, and month through three semi-circular apertures at the top of the dial arranged along an arc, with all indications switching within just 30 milliseconds at midnight.

The mono-pusher chronograph features 60-minute and 12-hour counters at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock respectively. The split-seconds hand is activated by a dedicated pusher at 4 o'clock.

The minute repeater utilizes two gongs and is activated by a slide at 9 o’clock. As with all minute repeaters of the family-owned watch company, the sound quality is personally approved by Thierry Stern, Patek Philippe's president.

The Quadruple Complication is equipped with a shiny navy-blue alligator leather strap with a new patented triple-blade fold-over clasp in white gold. Pricing is marked at $1,237,270.
