Last week, Frankfurt, Germany-based watchmaker Sinn unveiled two new limited-edition watches ahead of its showing at INHORGENTA, Munich's annual jewelry trade fair. The two new models include the Sinn 104 St Sa A B E— a special edition of the existing 104 St Sa model — and the Sinn 158, a vintage-inspired chronograph based on the 1960s German military’s Bundeswehr watch. Starting with a look at the Sinn 104 St Sa A B E, we find a time-only pilot-style chronograph with a sunburst blue and faux patina color scheme, using the same base design as the previously released, black-dialed 104 St Sa A. The 41-mm polished steel model features sharp lugs, minimal crown guards partially protecting the screw-down crown, and a bidirectional ratcheting bezel with a 60-minute scale with white numerals and topped with a faux patina triangle. On the dial you’ll find a white outer minute ring accented at each hour with a small rectangle, and Arabic numerals just within these markers designating the time of day. Toward the 3 o’clock position is a day-and-date indicator, while toward the top and bottom of the dial are Sinn’s corporate logo and an “Automatic” script, respectively. Passing over the dial are two syringe-style hands for the hour and minute, while a diamond-tipped seconds hand accompanies them; each is accented with a luminous paint. Inside the watch is the Sellita SW 220-1, capable of a 38-hour power reserve, which is finished by Sinn and visible via a sapphire caseback. The new 104 St Sa A B E will be limited to 1,000 editions, and will be priced at about $1,400. The second model released by the brand is the Sinn 158, the limited edition channeling the look of a vintage Bundeswehr watch. The Bundeswehr is one of the most significant vintage designs sold by Sinn over the years. The original watches were purchased by brand founder Helmut Sinn after their heyday in the German military in the 1960s as part of overstock inventories; those watches were originally known as the Heuer-Leonidas SA 1550 SG, which over time was shortened to Heuer 1550 SG. After purchase, the watches were reconditioned and the SINN lettering was added to the dials, re-branding them as the Sinn 155 Bw. The latest Sinn 158 channels this design, using a 43-mm steel case with pump pushers; a wide, black, 60-minute bezel; and a slightly extended crown. On the black dial of the watch you’ll find a white chronograph-style outer minute ring, with Arabic numerals designating the hours, and a subtle date window at the 6 o’clock position. At the 3 and 9 o’clock positions are a 30-minute counter and running seconds counter, respectively, with a small red hand tallying the elapsed chronograph minutes and matching the chronograph seconds hand that sweeps over the entire face. This model uses two white hands, one sword-style, one syringe-style, for its hour and minute. Inside the 158 model is the Sellita SW 510, capable of a 48-hour power reserve, and protected behind a solid caseback. The Sinn 158 will be limited to 500 editions, and will retail for about $2,800. Together, the two new models Sinn is showcasing to kick off 2020 will appeal to many, and likely indicate a host of new and interesting models to come from the brand throughout the year.
