A field watch takes to the skies
From Field to Flight
With the AirField 40mm Automatic, Formex expands its Field collection with a watch that takes its design cues from aviation. The new model retains the 40mm titanium case of the Field but introduces a new dial architecture, hands and aviation-inspired details. At 54 grams for the case alone, it is designed as a lightweight everyday watch with a focus on legibility and durability. The connection between field and pilot watches is evident in the strong contrast, Arabic numerals and functional design. Rather than reproducing a historical pilot-watch design, Formex incorporates these elements into the contemporary architecture of the Field collection.

Cockpit-Inspired Legibility
The most obvious changes are found on the dial. Broad, sword-shaped hour and minute hands are complemented by recessed Arabic numerals, while a triangle flanked by two dots at 12 o’clock serves as an orientation marker. The long, slender seconds hand features an aircraft-shaped counterweight as a subtle aviation reference.

The finely grained dial surface is produced by stamping. The recessed numerals and hour markers are individually filled with Superluminova, providing strong legibility in low-light conditions. A sloped chapter ring rises toward the sapphire crystal, adding depth around the perimeter without increasing the watch’s overall height. At 6 o’clock, Formex places its characteristic beveled date window. The date discs are color-matched to the four dial variants: Desert Sand, Horizon Blue, Jet Black and Tarmac Grey.

Hardened Titanium
The 40mm case is made of Grade 2 titanium and measures 10.5mm in height, with a 48mm lug-to-lug distance. The titanium is hardened to approximately 900 Vickers, increasing its resistance to scratches compared with conventional stainless steel. A screw-down crown contributes to the 150-meter water resistance. The aviation theme continues on the solid titanium caseback, which features a depiction of a radial aircraft engine and propeller.

65 Hours of Power Reserve
At the heart of the AirField is the new Sellita SW200-2 Power+. The automatic movement runs at 4 Hz, contains 26 jewels and now offers a 65-hour power reserve, compared with 41 hours for the standard SW200-2. The extended reserve allows the watch to run for more than two days when fully wound.

Four Colors, Two Configurations
The AirField is available in four dial colors: Desert Sand, Horizon Blue, Jet Black and Tarmac Grey. The nylon-strap versions are priced at $1,060, while the leather versions with deployant clasp cost $1,200. Pre-orders are open now, with deliveries scheduled to begin at the end of October.
