The new line consists of three automatic models, four chronographs with in-house movements, and a limited-edition reference with perpetual calendar, based on the design of the Ingenieurs from the ’60s. “The new collection is very much inspired by these early Ingenieur models, so the watch family is definitely going back to its roots,” explained Christoph Grainger-Herr, the new CEO of IWC Schaffhausen.
Vintage-watch collectors will notice that the iconic “Ingenieur” logo with the arrow is not on the dial anymore and that the characteristically increased protection against magnetic fields is being paid tribute to with the Ingenieur Chronograph Sport, which is equipped with a soft-iron cage.
The three versions of the Ingenieur Automatic are powered by the 35111 movement (based on the Sellita 300-1), and come with a date window at 3 o’clock and a case measuring 40 mm in diameter. Two of the models feature a stainless-steel case, rhodium-plated hands and indexes, and a solid caseback.
The first (Ref. IW357001; 4,590 euros) has a silver-plated dial and a black alligator leather strap, and the second (Ref. IW357002; 5,500 euros) has a black dial and a stainless-steel bracelet. The third version is the IW357003, which comes with an 18k rose-gold case, a silver-plated dial, gold-plated hands and a black alligator leather strap. Price: 13,600 euros.
The 42-mm Ingenieur Chronograph (Ref. IW380801/IW380802/IW380803) is powered by the new IWC-manufactured 69375 movement with a bidirectional pawl-winding system and a power reserve of 46 hours. Two of the versions are available with a stainless-steel case: One features a silver-plated dial and gold-plated hands (Ref. IW380801; 7,950 euros), while the other has a blue dial and rhodium-plated hands (Ref. IW380802; 7,950 euros). The third version comes in 18k rose gold with a slate-colored dial (Ref. IW380803; 18,200 euros).
The Ingenieur Chronograph Sport (Ref. IW380901; 11,100 euros) comes with a 44-mm titanium case and an IWC-manufactured 89361 movement and is limited to 500 pieces. The black dial and black calfskin strap create an overall impression of sporty elegance. An additional soft-iron cage protects the movement against the negative influence of magnetic fields.
The Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month (Ref. IW381701; 46,300 euros) automatically recognizes the different lengths of the months, including the leap day occurring every four years. It is powered by the IWC-manufactured 89800 caliber with chronograph. The 18k rose-gold case measures 45 mm in diameter. It has a silver-plated dial, black hands and black alligator leather strap and is limited to 100 pieces. All watches are water resistant to 120 meters.
Glashütte Original gives the SeaQ and SeaQ Panorama Date a turquoise-to-black dégradé dial in two North America-exclusive limited editions of 100 pieces each.
