Among connoisseurs of fine Glashütte watchmaking, the name Moritz Grossmann is synonymous with technical sophistication and artisanal excellence. In the brand’s small, independent manufactory in Glashütte, Saxony, each timepiece is crafted with uncompromising attention to detail— from the hands to many elements of the meticulously finished movement. Revived in 2008 by watchmaker Christine Hutter, the Moritz Grossmann brand honors its namesake’s legacy by marrying traditional craftsmanship with contemporary horological innovation. A beautiful example of this philosophy is the new GMT Guilloche, available in two striking versions that combine elaborate guilloché artistry with practical dual-time-zone functionality.

True to its name, the GMT Guilloche models feature finely guilloché dials crafted from solid silver. They are miniature works of art in their own right. Available in bold green or orange, the dials receive their rich color through a specialized coating process. Each dial’s intricate pattern is hand-engraved using a traditional rose engine and burin, then polished to a mirror finish with a diamond tool— resulting in mesmerizing light reflections that shift with every movement. A prominent arrow-shaped GMT hand circles the 24-hour scale on the flange of the dial, clearly distinguishing between day and night hours in a second time zone. Local time is displayed via the central hour and minute hands, accompanied by a small seconds subdial at 6 o'clock. The pusher at 10 o'clock allows for the independent adjustment of the GMT hand in hourly increments, without interfering with the display of the main time. Additionally, the 24-hour indicator remains synchronized with the 12-hour hand when adjusting the time indication using the crown.

Turn the watch over, and the exhibition case back reveals another visual delight: the beautifully finished Caliber 100.8 in Moritz Grossmann’s High Artistic Finish. This hand-wound movement is housed within a 41mm stainless steel case measuring 11.58mm in height and offers a power reserve of 42 hours. Signature elements of Grossmann’s watchmaking style are proudly on display: the 2/3 plate with raised gold chatons, the Grossmann manual winding mechanism with pusher, the separately removable winding unit, and the hand-engraved balance cock with micrometer screw and mass-optimized balance wheel, to name just a few.
