Good Things Come in Threes: Maurice Lacroix Introduces the Aikonic Master Triple Retrograde

For its 50th anniversary, Maurice Lacroix highlights its long-standing expertise in retrograde displays with the debut of the Aikonic Master Triple Retrograde. The steel timepiece brings together three retrograde indications in an urban design that emphasizes depth, structure, and fine detailing.

Retrograde indicatins have always carried a special fascination. Their jumping motion adds a dynamic character to the dial, and Maurice Lacroix has a particular affinity for this complication, demonstrated by earlier releases such as the Calendar Retrograde (1999) and the Double Retrograde (2002). The new Aikonic Master Triple Retrograde continues this tradition, reinterpreting the retrograde display through contemporary design and an intentionally selected mix of materials.

The anthracite dial features a vertically brushed surface and four skeletonized openings revealing portions of the rhodium-plated movement plate, decorated with vertical Geneva stripes, beneath. A classic small seconds display is positioned at 9 o’clock, while the remaining three apertures display retrograde functions for home time (GMT), weekday, and date.

All four openings feature circular-brushed scales and silver, powder-coated markings that stand in deliberate contrast to the surrounding vertical lines. The in-house retrograde mechanisms, arranged toward the edge of the movement, create a spacious and well-balanced dial layout that ensures clear legibility and gives each indication room to command attention.

The hour and minute hands, as well as the applied hour markers, take inspiration from the signature claws that define the bezel of the Aikon collection, the brand’s best-selling line. Faceted, rhodium-plated, and finished with a sandblasted central ridge, they reflect the high level of detailing throughout the design. Multiple dial levels and the interplay between circular and vertical motifs emphasize the watch’s visual depth.

Housed in a 43mm stainless-steel case measuring 13mm thick, the Aikon Master Triple Retrograde offers a water resistance of 100 meters. The mix of polished and brushed surfaces creates a refined, architectural look. A scratch-resistant ceramic bezel forms the watch’s bold visual frame, defined by the six double-width claws characteristic of the Aikon design. This material choice continues on the crown, providing a cohesive aesthetic. The ceramic components maintain their color and resist UV fading, preserving their appearance over time.

Through the sapphire caseback, the automatic ML291 caliber is on display, complete with its decorative finishes and a 38-hour power reserve.

The Aikonic Master Triple Retrograde is fitted with a black rubber strap featuring a textured inlay and a black rubber M-logo. Maurice Lacroix equips the model with its patented ML Easy Change system, which allows the strap to be removed and replaced without tools. A simple turn of the central links at their junction with the case releases the strap, and reattachment is achieved with a firm click.

Pricing is marked at $6,900.
