Earlier in January, The Watches of Switzerland Group announced its first partnership of the year, as the Group's Watches of Switzerland and MAYOR boutiques have become the exclusive retailers of a new release by jeweler-watchmaker  Jacob & Co., the Epic X Chrono Sky Blue. The new Sky Blue watch is the latest addition to Jacob & Co.’s Epic X Chrono collection. The series is known for its many different colorways — including white, orange, yellow, and green editions-- and while this latest Sky Blue model is exclusive to the Watches of Switzerland Group, the brand has previously partnered with Bugatti and soccer star Lionel Messi for pieces in its men’s collection alongside an array of diverse, independent releases. The Watches of Switzerland Group owns both Watches of Switzerland, a retailer of new and pre-owned watches operating in the U.S. and U.K., and MAYORS, a luxury jeweler located in the Southeast U.S., which are the two main retailers for the group in America. Together they will offer a solid launching point for this new, American-focused watch. The Epic X Chrono Sky Blue uses a polished, 47-mm case combining titanium and rose gold and features a prominently masculine style throughout. The model uses large integrated crown guards and chronograph pushes, a large stylized 3 o’clock crown to adjust the time, and another crown with a tread pattern at 10 o’clock to rotate the curved inner bezel. Each of these elements is accented with the model’s namesake sky-blue colored rubber. On the openworked blue dial you’ll find four rose-gold lines crossing the mechanical face, with two satin-finished and anodized aluminum subdials breaking up the lines — running seconds at 9 o’clock and a 30-minute chronograph counter parallel to it at 3 o'clock. Circling the dial are two large, skeletonized hands accented with Super-LumiNova, while a contrasting slim red hand counts the chronograph seconds. Inside the watch is the Jacob & Co. JCAA05 caliber, a skeletonized movement exclusive to the brand, and one capable of a 48-hour power reserve. The automatic caliber is visible through a sapphire caseback, with highlights including an open barrel, polished and circular grained bridges, and an anthracite-finished rotor perpetually powering the watch. The new Epic X Chrono Sky Blue will only be available for an eight-week period at select Watches of Switzerland U.S. and MAYORS locations, starting on January 8. The watch will retail for $48,000 and will be limited to 180 editions.
