Each year, the arrival of the Chinese New Year inspires watch brands to express cultural storytelling through finely crafted limited editions. These creations go beyond color and symbolism, highlighting traditional artistic techniques, meticulous handwork and meaningful motifs rooted in Chinese culture. For 2026, the Year of the Horse, Hublot continues its long-standing tradition with a dedicated piece that translates symbolism into material innovation and is very much in line with its "Art of the Fusion" philosophy: the Spirit of Big Bang Year of the Horse, unveiled during the LVMH Watch Week 2026.

Limited to just 88 pieces, a number associated with prosperity and good fortune, the new Spirit of Big Bang stands out through its use of carbon as an artistic medium. The tonneau-shaped 42mm case is crafted in frosted carbon, a lightweight yet technically demanding material that underscores Hublot’s reputation for material mastery. The watch’s visual focus, however, is its dial: a striking marquetry composition made entirely from hand-laid carbon fragments to depict a powerful horse in motion. Inspired by Tang Dynasty (618–907 CE), a golden age in Chinese history, the motif reflects the horse’s traditional symbolism of ambition, vitality and forward momentum. Fine 3N gold-plated brass lines outline the horse’s form, evoking the embroidery found on ceremonial robes, while a black lacquer base enhances depth and contrast. Each dial is assembled by hand, fragment by fragment, demonstrating an artisanal approach rarely associated with carbon, a material more commonly linked to pure performance than decorative craftsmanship. To ensure the focus remains entirely on this artful gem, Hublot has chosen to forgo hour markers and indices altogether, while using skeletonized hour and minute hands to keep the dial visually open and unobstructed.

Powering the Spirit of Big Bang Year of the Horse is Hublot’s MHUB1710 self-winding movement, operating at 4 Hz (28,800 vph) and offering a power reserve of approximately 50 hours. The black-plated main plate and bridges, along with an openworked tungsten rotor bearing Hublot’s signature design, as can be seen through the smoked sapphire case back. Water resistance is rated to 100 meters, underscoring its versatility despite its artistic focus.
