In 2025, Girard-Perregaux celebrates the 50th anniversary of one of its most enduring icons: the Laureato. Launched in 1975 as a forward-looking synthesis of sportiness and sophistication, the model helped define the emerging of the luxury sports watch with integrated bracelet. Blending the sophistication of haute horlogerie with the spirit of everyday wear, this genre is defined by bold design, fine craftsmanship, and enduring versatility. Born in the 1970s with icons like the Patek Philippe Nautilus and the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, these watches reimagined what elegance could look like—crafting beauty not from gold or diamonds, but from steel, sharp geometry, and integrated bracelets. To mark the milestone anniversary of the Laureato, the Girard-Perregaux presents the Laureato Fifty, a 39-mm two-tone creation limited to 200 pieces that reinterprets the essence of the original with contemporary precision. Despite its refined appearance, the self-winding watch offers a water resistance of 150 meters, underscoring its versatility as a true everyday companion.

The Laureato Fifty maintains the unmistakable features that have made the collection a symbol of architectural elegance: an octagonal bezel on a circular base, a tonneau-shaped case, and an integrated bracelet. Crafted from steel and 3N yellow gold, the watch revisits the two-tone aesthetic of the 1975 model while refining its proportions for modern tastes. The alternation of satin and polished surfaces enhances the play of light across the case and bezel, while the bracelet’s fluid construction ensures an ergonomic fit. The triple folding clasp, equipped with a discreet fine adjustment mechanism, allows for precise comfort on the wrist.

As is de rigueur for the Laureato, the luminescent sunray-gray dial features a Clous de Paris pattern. The fascinating texture makes for a cool backdrop for the gold-plated hands and hour markers, and a color-matched date aperture at 3 o’clock. The GP double-arrow emblem serves as the counterweight of the central seconds hand, a subtle nod to the brand’s heritage and penchant for refined details.

Visible through the sapphire case back, the new self-winding caliber GP4800 underscores Girard-Perregaux’s dual mastery of design and mechanics. The movement, equipped with a silicon escapement and a variable-inertia balance, has been conceived for optimal efficiency and reliability. Measuring just 4.28mm in height, it offers a 55-hour power reserve and beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. Structurally, it draws inspiration from the brand’s signature Three Bridges architecture, a design principle that now extends beyond its tourbillon calibers. It goes without saying that it is finished to the high standards of the brand, with the partially skeletonized gold oscillating weight taking center stage.
