For A. Lange & Söhne, December 7 is more than a date— it is a symbolic reminder of the company’s origins and revival. On this day in 1845, Ferdinand Adolph Lange laid the foundation for fine watchmaking in Glashütte. Exactly 145 years later, in 1990, Walter Lange and Günter Blümlein re-established the brand after German reunification, setting the stage for its modern renaissance. True to this heritage, the brand continues to introduce a significant new timepiece each year on December 7.

In 2025, that honor goes to the Lange 1 Daymatic Honeygold, the automatic counterpart to the famed Lange 1 and now offered for the first time in honey gold. This proprietary 18-carat alloy is known for its warm tone and exceptional hardness, and exclusive use in limited productions. Paired with a brown dial in solid 925 silver, the new model achieves a rich, elegant character that sets it apart within the Lange 1 product family.

While the watch is immediately recognizable as a Lange 1, the Daymatic variant, first introduced in 2010, provides a subtle but distinctive shift in perspective. All dial indications are mirrored compared to the classic model: the off-center hours and minutes are moved to the right, while the small seconds and brand-typical outsize date occupy the left. This reversal gives the Daymatic its own identity and offers a visually balanced dial that still adheres to the strict geometry that defines the sophisticated Lange 1 aesthetic, an icon of modern-day high horology.

Replacing the power-reserve indicator found on the hand-wound Lange 1, the Daymatic features a retrograde day-of-week display positioned opposite the crown. This function adds both daily utility and visual dynamism, creating an interplay between linear motion and the static structure of the remaining displays.

The dial itself features a number of refined details that amplify the watch’s refined and elegant charisma. The hours and minutes subdial is lightly recessed for additional depth, while the outsize date displays white numerals on a brown background, harmonizing with the overall color palette. The same rings true for the hands, markers and numerals that reflect the distinctive shimmer of honey gold, supporting a cohesive and quietly luxurious presentation typical of A. Lange & Söhne.

The dimensions of the Daymatic remain faithful to the line’s balanced proportions: a diameter of 39.5mm and a height of 10.4mm. These measurements allow the watch to wear comfortably while preserving Lange’s architectural case profile. A slightly slimmer bezel introduces a sense of openness and refinement, letting the dial take a more prominent visual role. In honey gold, the case gains additional character. The alloy produces a deeper, more nuanced shine than traditional yellow or rose gold, lending the watch a subtle but unmistakable distinction on the wrist.

Inside the Lange 1 Daymatic Honeygold beats the automatic manufacture caliber L021.1, a high-end haute horlogerie movement that demonstrates the brand’s legendary dedication to both technical prowess and artisanal finishing. Its construction is rooted in traditional Glashütte principles, yet engineered with modern precision in mind. The movement’s architecture is defined by four screwed plates—forming an ensemble that visually evokes a classic three-quarter plate once assembled. The large central rotor spans the full diameter of the movement, equipped with an 875-gold center segment and a 950-platinum outer centrifugal mass to maximize winding efficiency. The four slender spokes cushion the heavy rotor in the case of shocks and protect the movement against high strain.

“With its distinctive design, sophisticated manufacture movement and artisanal finissage, the Lange 1 Daymatic Honeygold presents itself as a timepiece with a strong personality for aficionados of self-winding watches. Its exclusive case material and the rare colour combination make it into an elegant classic with a high recognition value.”

Anthony de Haas, Director of Product Development

Further typical Lange quality hallmarks of the movement with a 50-hour power reserve include an indexless oscillation system featuring a large balance wheel with eccentric poising weights, and a balance spring developed and crafted in-house that beats at a frequency of 21,600 semi-oscillations per hour. As is the case with all Lange calibres, the 426-part L021.1 movement is assembled twice and endowed with many traditional elements. The elaborate finissage of all components complies with the manufacture’s strictest standards regarding artisanal perfection. Traditional features such as the hand-engraved balance cock, Glashütte ribbing and screwed gold chatons are some of  fascinating highlights that can be admired through the sapphire-crystal case back.

Limited to 250 pieces, the Lange 1 Daymatic Honeygold is delivered on a hand-stitched taupe alligator strap. Pricing is available upon request.
