2021 has been a big year for the Citizen Promaster Eco-Drive dive watch collection, with the brand advancing its professionally-focused range with a number of new designs, including the popular Promaster Eco-Drive Aqualand 200m that debuted last spring. This week Citizen is highlighting a lesser-known addition to the collection launched this year, with a renewed focus on two new models launched as part of the Promaster Eco-Drive Diver 200m series.

The 2021 pair of Promaster Eco-Drive watches each feature the same base design, differing only in one’s use of blue accents and the other’s green, though both featuring a natural camouflage-inspired pattern. Outside of colorway and interesting dial, the both opt for a vintage influenced, functional-focused style which effectively captures the attention of anyone looking for an uncommon, utility-driven dive watch. In this regard, the duo follows in the footsteps of the original 1982 CITIZEN diver’s watch from which they take foremost inspiration, that iconic watch at its launch achieving the record at the time for the highest depth rating for a dive watch in the world —1,300 meters.

Like the vintage design that inspired the modern style, the new pair of Promaster Eco-Drive watches feature a lug-free case silhouette, with four distinct bezel guards, and large indentations on the rotating bezel which provide them a bold, distinctive look. A sandblasted, Super Titanium Duratect-MRK and DLC-coated case provides the 46.5-mm watches with a dark hue, which when brought in combination with the blue or green camouflage pattern on the dial helps presents a prominent watch on the wrist with some seriously tough and sporty appeal.

At a glance, the new watches offer an updated, modern take on the unique, world-first 1982 classic, with the modern examples opting for the same rounded, chunky case shape to present timepieces which are no less than striking, but plenty wearable thanks to their reduced thickness on the wrist for an improved fit. Other notable upgrades are seen on the watches’ camouflage dials, which besides featuring modern colorways and patterns, also feature enhanced visibility of the hands and bezel, and in effect provide a more refined interpretation of the original, bold ‘80s design.

As indicated by their names, each of the new Promaster Eco-Drive Diver 200m watches are powered by an Eco-Drive movement, in this case the Caliber E168. What this means is that the 200-meter water resistant, ISO-compliant timepieces do not require regular battery replacement as they are powered by light. This type of movement further allows the watches to hold power for up to 6 months at a time between exposure to light sources, all while maintaining a quartz-powered accuracy to +/-15 seconds per month.

Both of the new Promaster Eco-Drive Diver 200m watches are available now, with pricing marked at $550. As both models take part of their inspiration from nature, partial proceeds from their sales will support the marine conservation activities of Conservation International, an international NGO that is working to protect the critical benefits that nature provides to people through science, partnerships and fieldwork, a group Citizen has supported since the launch of its Save the BEYOND campaign in 2019.
