Venezianico Captures the Colors of the Venice in the Nereide Verdigris

Inspired by the weathered bronze domes, sculptures, and architectural details of Venice, Venezianico introduces a new interpretation of its Nereide dive watch. The Nereide Verdigris pairs robust diving credentials with a dial whose distinctive patina ensures that no two watches are exactly alike.

Venice has long been a city shaped by time. Its palaces, churches, and monuments bear the marks of centuries, developing textures and colors that cannot be replicated by modern manufacturing alone. It is precisely this sense of history and transformation that inspires the latest addition to Venezianico’s Nereide collection: the Nereide Verdigris. Founded in 2017 by brothers Alberto and Alessandro Morelli, Venezianico has built its reputation on translating elements of Venetian culture and craftsmanship into contemporary watchmaking. With the Nereide Verdigris, the independent Italian brand turns its attention to one of the city’s most recognizable visual signatures: the green-blue patina that develops on bronze sculptures, domes, and decorative architectural elements exposed to the Venetian climate.

A Dial Shaped by Artisanal Processes

The defining feature of the Nereide Verdigris is its remarkable dial, created through a carefully controlled oxidation process. Starting with a brass base, artisans apply a combination of thermal treatments and oxidation techniques that gradually generate a natural verdigris surface. The resulting palette shifts between shades of green, turquoise, and deep blue, creating an appearance that recalls the aged surfaces of Venice’s historic landmarks. Because the process is influenced by subtle variations in temperature, oxygen exposure, and surface conditions, each dial develops its own distinctive character. No two examples emerge with exactly the same pattern, coloration, or texture. The dial becomes a miniature work of art, carrying the visible traces of its individual creation. Against this richly textured backdrop, the applied hour markers and hands remain highly legible. Designed in the functional style expected of a professional dive watch, they are filled with Superluminova BGW9 to ensure excellent visibility in darkness and underwater conditions. Their bright, crisp appearance contrasts sharply with the organic complexity of the patinated dial.

Diver’s Credentials with Swiss Mechanics

Beyond its artistic appeal, the Nereide Verdigris remains a capable sports watch. The 42mm stainless-steel case measures 12.5mm in height and offers water resistance to 200 meters. A unidirectional rotating bezel featuring a tungsten insert enhances durability while reinforcing the watch’s tool-watch character. Turning the watch over reveals an engraved caseback depicting the historic submarine Nereide, from which the collection takes its name. Beneath it beats the proven Sellita SW200-1 automatic caliber. Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and equipped with bi-directional winding, the Swiss movement provides reliable everyday performance and easy serviceability.

Completing the monochromatic look is an Italian-made rubber strap whose color harmonizes with the dial’s unique verdigris tones. The Venezianico Nereide Verdigris is priced at $1,395.
