Since the launch of the updated Promaster Dive Automatic collection in the spring of this year, Citizen's popular dive series has been making serious waves among collectors and enthusiasts. Drawing inspiration from the original Promaster NY004 from 1989, the collection as a whole unites classic professional-grade capabilities with modern manufacturing and details. The result is a series which embodies high-performance, sporty style, with watches that are ready and waiting for underwater adventure.

Helping lead the series is the NY0155-58X Promaster Dive Automatic, a full lume dial edition of the sporty silhouette. Paying homage to the design history of the Promaster Dive series, the NY0155-58X brings a fresh approach to the collection in its upsized, all-black ion-plated steel case and contrasting luminescent display. Unique in its style while particularly notable for its robust technical features and affordability, this Promaster is an ideal and accessible dive watch.

On its exterior, the NY0155-58X opts for a distinctive case design that has previously seen great success in other Promaster iterations, with it featuring the same 3-piece design in a bold diameter of 44mm. Featuring an aforementioned black ion-plating upon the steel construction, the dark hue of the case and its matching bracelet provide a chic noir that matches the mysterious depths for which the diver was built for.

Another distinctive design element of the NY0155-58X is in its serrated rotating bezel, the easy-grip steel feature making use of an aluminum insert for its diving scale. Inspired by fugu, the Japanese name for pufferfish, the shape and texture of the bezel's edges feature a distinct curve and pointing which help it be easily operable in wet conditions. This fugu inspiration has not only helped optimize the bezel function of the watch, but has further become an integral part of the updated Promaster Dive Automatic collection as a whole, exemplified by the use of the fish's motif as an engraving on the watch's caseback.

Perhaps most visually striking about the new diver upon first glance is the contrast between its all-black case and the brightness of its fully lume dial. With functionality in low light conditions of the utmost importance in dive watches, the high lume aesthetic is at once aesthetically interesting while simultaneously functional. Included on the dial is a day-date window at 3 o’clock and charcoal geometric hour markers that are easily legible against the bright background. Notably, this luminescent style derives from a popular dial variation of the Promaster NY004 from 1989, which also included a full lume dial edition.

A pair of signature, bold hands sweeps over the full-lume display, the orange-accented pointers powered by the Citizen caliber 8204. The automatic caliber is protected by its ISO compliant case, the shell featuring a screw-down crown and water resistance to 200m.
