Seiko Celebrates 145 Years with Two Limited-Edition Prospex Divers

Drawing inspiration from historic milestones while incorporating modern specifications, these new Seiko sports watches pay tribute to the Japanese manufacturer’s rich legacy in both watchmaking and professional diving instruments.

The celebrations surrounding Seiko’s 145th anniversary continue with the introduction of two new Prospex limited editions: the Heritage Automatic Diver’s Seiko 145th Anniversary Limited Edition HBC005J1 and the Diver’s Seiko 145th Anniversary Limited Edition HBB001K1. Both watches showcase a striking combination of silver-white dials, blue seconds hands, and matching blue aluminum bezels, highlighting a color that has become deeply associated with the brand. The choice of "Seiko Blue" is no coincidence. It recalls the transformative decade of the 1960s, a period that helped establish Seiko as a global force in watchmaking. During those years, the company introduced Grand Seiko and King Seiko, achieved remarkable results in the renowned chronometer competitions of the Observatoire de Neuchâtel, and, in 1969, unveiled the groundbreaking Quartz Astron, the world’s first quartz wristwatch. The decade also saw the debut of the legendary 62MAS, Japan’s first dive watch, a model whose influence remains visible throughout the Prospex collection today.

Both anniversary editions feature hard-coated stainless-steel cases paired with robust steel bracelets fitted with folding clasps and safety pushers, underscoring their professional diving credentials.

The more historically inspired of the two models is the Heritage Automatic Diver’s Seiko 145th Anniversary Limited Edition HBC005J1. Based on the design language of Seiko’s 1965 Diver’s Watch Heritage series, it combines vintage-inspired aesthetics with contemporary performance. Its case measures 40mm in diameter and 13mm in height and offers a water resistance of 300 meters. A newly developed unidirectional diving bezel in Seiko Blue reinforces the anniversary theme while adding a vibrant contrast to the silver-white dial.

Legibility remains a key priority. Large applied markers and hands are generously coated with Seiko’s proprietary LumiBrite luminescent material, ensuring excellent visibility in low-light conditions. A blue central seconds hand adds a distinctive splash of color, while a discreet date display positioned between 4 and 5 o’clock preserves the dial’s balanced appearance. An anti-reflective sapphire crystal protects the display.

Powering the watch is Seiko’s Caliber 6R55, a self-winding mechanical movement with manual-winding capability, hacking seconds, and a power reserve of more than 72 hours.

Limited to 4,000 pieces worldwide, the Heritage Automatic Diver’s Seiko 145th Anniversary Limited Edition is priced at $1,500.

Taking a more contemporary approach, the Diver’s Seiko 145th Anniversary Limited Edition HBB001K1 features a bold design characterized by sharply defined case lines, faceted surfaces, a heavily knurled crown, and substantial crown guards. The case measures 41.7mm in diameter and 12.3mm in thickness and is water-resistant to 200 meters. Its blue unidirectional bezel incorporates a gray-highlighted first 15-minute section, a practical detail for timing dives.

Like its sibling, the watch emphasizes functionality through highly legible hands and  indexes in "Samurai" style treated with LumiBrite. Inside beats Seiko’s reliable Caliber 4R35, an automatic movement featuring a date display and a power reserve of more than 41 hours.

The Diver’s Seiko 145th Anniversary Limited Edition HBB001K1 is limited to 9,999 pieces and is offered at an accessible price point of $595.
