Fortis Launches Marinemaster M-44 DLC Gravity Black and Black Resin

Fortis equips its Marinemaster with Dianoir DLC coating for the first time, boosting hardness to 4,500 Vickers while maintaining the professional 500-meter dive credentials.

With the latest evolution of its professional dive watch, Fortis introduces a major material upgrade to the Marinemaster collection. For the first time, the independent Swiss brand equips the dive watch with Dianoir DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coating technology, dramatically increasing durability and resistance. The new surface achieves a hardness of approximately 4,500 Vickers—around twenty times harder than conventional stainless steel, which typically measures between 200 and 220 Vickers. The result is a dive watch with significantly improved scratch resistance and enhanced protection against corrosion, designed to withstand the most demanding environments.

Fortis launches the new Marinemaster in two versions— Gravity Black and Black Resin— both combining the brand’s tool-watch philosophy with a stealthy, contemporary aesthetic. While visually understated, the watch remains a purpose-built instrument engineered for serious underwater use.

The Marinemaster’s 44-mm case is constructed for water resistance to 500 meters (50 bar). Stability under pressure is ensured through a combination of features, including a screw-down crown with a triple-gasket system, high-performance FKM seals, and sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides. A defining element of the watch is the bidirectional rotating bezel equipped with the brand’s proprietary Fortis-Lock system, which allows the bezel to be securely locked in place—an important safety feature for professional divers who rely on precise timing underwater.

The dial retains the model’s highly functional design language. It features a classic black surface with an embossed Fortis “O” pattern, framed by a luminous ring and complemented by an angled inner flange that enhances depth and legibility. Both versions share this layout but differ in their color accents: the Gravity Black model features cool, silver-toned ones, while the Black Resin edition opts for warmer gold-colored hands and hour markers. Across both variants, Fortis applies an extra-strong layer of Superluminova to ensure outstanding readability in low-light and underwater conditions.

Powering the watch is the COSC-certified automatic Werk 11, developed by Fortis in collaboration with movement manufacturer Kenissi. The manufacture caliber offers a power reserve of 70 hours and incorporates a variable-inertia balance system designed to enhance long-term rate stability— an important feature for a watch built to perform under demanding conditions. The new Marinemasters come on a black FKM rubber strap and are priced at $5,450, taxes included.
