RZE UTD-8080 Debuts with an In-House Digital Module

RZE equips the titanium UTD-8080 with its first in-house digital module, adding dual time, multiple alarms, a countdown timer, and an upgrade path for owners.

More and more smaller watch brands are developing their own movements, yet they are almost always mechanical. Singapore-based brand RZE is taking a different route, entering territory usually reserved for big groups by developing a digital module in-house.

With the UTD-8000, RZE launched its first digital watch — a bold move for a brand whose previous offerings were entirely analog. But because RZE has focused from the beginning on watches designed to explore the outdoors and withstand demanding conditions, a digital model made sense. The UTD-8000 proved successful, not least because it combined robust construction with an accessible price.

With the UTD-8080, RZE enters a new digital era, as the in-house-developed module takes the performance and functionality of the watch to new heights. It adds additional functions such as multiple alarms, dual time zones, and a countdown timer. This makes the RZE even more competitive in the market. Another welcome addition is a high-contrast FSTN, or film-compensated super-twisted nematic, display — a type of LCD that provides higher contrast and improved legibility from all angles and in more difficult conditions. According to RZE, this type of display will also enable a great deal of customization in the future.

UTD isn't a random acronym; it stands for UltraHex Titanium Digital. “Digital” refers to the watch’s display and module, while “UltraHex Titanium” describes its Grade 2 titanium construction and RZE’s proprietary UltraHex surface-hardening coating. The treatment raises the surface hardness to 1,200 Vickers, roughly six times that of conventional 316L stainless steel.

The watch size also remains the same, measuring 43mm in diameter and 14.4mm thick. Thanks to the elastic fabric strap, the UTD-8080 can be worn close to the wrist or over clothing. The watch offers 200 meters of water resistance and features a sapphire crystal with Super AR coating on the inside. RZE also offers a lifetime guarantee on all UTD models, underscoring their ability to handle the harshest environments.

Uniquely, RZE also lets owners of existing UTD-8000 models upgrade to the new module for $100. This is rare, as watch manufacturers almost never offer the option to upgrade watches to newer specifications. The new module raises prices by $20 over the UTD-8000, keeping them very competitive. The version with a white Cerakote coating, as featured in this article, is the first to be launched. It is priced at $399, and delivery is expected in November 2026. Variants without the Cerakote coating are expected to ship in March 2027 and are priced at $299, while the module upgrade for owners of the UTD-8000 is available beginning in January 2027.
