Wempe’s Signature Collection has, since its debut, been devoted to celebrating icons of watchmaking through exclusive limited editions created with selected partners. With its deep knowledge of customer expectations and longstanding heritage as a family-run business, the Hamburg-based retailer brings together horological classics and modern refinements in collaborations available only through its global showrooms and online boutique. Three years after the first collaboration between Wempe and Breitling broke records, the two names reunite for another collector’s piece: the Navitimer B02 Chronograph 41 Cosmonaute Signature Collection. Limited to just 50 pieces, it pays tribute to the pioneering spirit of astronaut Scott Carpenter, who in 1962 wore a Breitling Cosmonaute on his wrist as he orbited the Earth three times aboard the Aurora 7 spacecraft.

Inspired by the 1962 original, the watch combines authentic design with modern updates. Floating at 12 o’clock on the green dial is the legendary winged logo of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), symbolizing the Navitimer Cosmonaute’s historic achievement. It also features seven functions at different levels: the watchmaker’s trademark––the characteristic slide rule which allows for basic calculations and conversions to be performed directly on the wrist––, here with white numerals and markers is operated via the bidirectional rotating bezel is the most famous. The chronograph mushroom-type pushpieces are also true to the original, while the three grooved totalizers give the dial a three-dimensional impression. The central stop second hand with a red lacquered tip and the 24-hour scale have been modernized to improve readability: their numerals and hour markers are made of Super-LumiNova for an authentic vintage look in the color “Old Radium,” which emits a green glow in the dark. This hour and minute hands, which, like all hands of this edition, are plated with 18k rose gold, are also covered with Super-LumiNova.

The stainless steel case measures 41mm wide and 13mm thick. It is topped with a cambered sapphire crystal that is glare-proofed on both sides. The Navitimer B02 Chronograph 41 Cosmonaute Signature Collection is powered by Breitling’s manufacture caliber B02, a hand-wound chronograph movement with integrated column-wheel control and vertical clutch. It offers chronometer-certified precision and a power reserve of approximately 70 hours. Its beautiful decorations and intricate details come to life through the sapphire case back that is engraved with “Wempe Signature Collection” and “One of 50.”
