German manufacture Glashütte Original this past week has unveiled the 2026 edition of its Sixties Chronograph Annual Edition series, this time featuring a violet dial finished with a stamped texture and vinyl record-inspired sub dial patterning. Like previous editions in the series, the new model emphasizes the collection’s retro character through a carefully balanced mix of vintage-inspired details and contemporary execution, resulting in a tasteful interpretation of 1960s style within a high-end mechanical chronograph.

Produced at the brand’s dial manufactory in Glashütte, the watch face begins as a thin bronze blank that is stamped to create its surface texture before being cut, drilled, and shaped. The recessed sub dials receive a fine grooved finish reminiscent of vinyl records. After the dial is curved and galvanically coated in yellow gold, a translucent violet lacquer is applied by hand and kiln-fired. Rather than using applied markers, the hour indexes are manually cut into the lacquered surface, revealing the warm bronze tone beneath. Arabic numerals, the brand signature, and luminous dots are added in several additional production steps. The 30-minute chronograph counter is positioned at 3 o'clock opposite from the small seconds sub dial at 9 o'clock. The gold-colored hands feature Superluminova coating for night-time readability. A domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides covers the dial which is framed by a small bezel.

The elegant chronograph is housed in a polished steel case measuring 42mm in diameter and 12.4mm thick. The sapphire case back reveals the automatic Caliber 39-34. Operating at 4 Hz with a 40-hour power reserve, the manufacture movement showcases beautiful elements and finishing in accordance with the brand's over 180 years tradition in Germany's famous watch town. They include a three-quarter plate with striped decoration, beveled edges, polished screws, and a noble swan-neck fine adjustment system. The Sixties Chronograph Annual Edition Purple will be available beginning in May 2026 through Glashütte Original boutiques and selected retailers worldwide. Pricing is marked at $10,000 (excl. taxes).
