As we teased last week, and announced on social media yesterday, Audemars Piguet has released its heretofore top-secret new watch, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore LeBron James limited edition. The watch, which will be limited to 600 pieces worldwide, was unveiled at a press conference held in a lavishly appointed open-air venue in Miami Beach, hometown of James's NBA team, the world champion Miami Heat. "King James" himself was in attendance, answering questions about the watch from the audience as well as from the event's emcee, Audemars Piguet CEO Francois-Henry Bennahmias.

Aesthetically, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore LeBron James Limited Edition (AP's product photo is below), with its LeBron-mandated rose gold/light gray color scheme, was something of a surprise to most of the watch watchers at the event. As the NBA's reigning MVP explained, he was interested in something more stylish than ultra-sporty; a timepiece he could wear with a tuxedo as well as with casual clothes. The watch's octagonal case is 44 mm in diameter, and the gray dial features the familiar "mega-tapisserie" pattern common to the Royal Oak family and applied rose-gold indices. It contains AP's chronograph Caliber 3126/3840, visible through a transparent caseback. In another nod to subtlety over swagger, the only "bling" on the watch is the row of diamonds on the chronograph pusher at 2 o'clock. We'll have a detailed report on the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore LeBron James watch next week. In the meantime, we'd love to hear your take on the new timepiece.
