Precious Metals and Jumping Hours, Cartier Introduces the Latest Tank à Guichets at Watches & Wonders 2025
Like Rolex and Patek Philippe, Cartier often leads Watches & Wonders in interest from journalists and consumers alike for its watches. This year is no different, with the brand unveiling its latest set to join their vintage-revival Privé series in the new Tank à Guichets, a distinct jumping-hour watch.
First introduced in 1928, the Tank à Guichets remains a rare sight in Cartier’s catalogue, with this 2025 edition marking its first return since the Collection Privée Cartier Paris version in the early 2000s. The new release includes four watches, three being launched as non-limited editions with a similar design but alternating in their case material, and a fourth with a more distinct "oblique" look that’s set for a run of 200 examples.
Each of the watches feature a 24.8mm rectangular case recalling the earliest years of the Tank, sitting very close to the wrist at 6mm. Available in yellow or rose gold, as well as platinum, the case throughout opts for a brushed finishing, with a contrasting use of polishing along the edges. In line with vintage editions, the manually-wound crown is placed at the top of the case, being recessed into the case.
Like the historic models, the modern editions of the Tank à Guichets are jumping hour watches, with the minutes moving slowly along a curved disc, and the hours moving in a quick jumping motion after the 59th minute. On the three regular edition models, the hour and minute indicators are placed in symmetry at the center of the display, while on the limited edition, they are placed asymmetrically to produce the "oblique" look.
Inside, the Tank à Guichets is powered by the caliber 9755 MC, a newly developed movement made by Cartier specifically for these watches. Details on the movement are still limited, but what is known is that manually-wound, runs at a frequency of about 21,600vph, and features approximately 43 hours of power reserve.
While not announced, the three non-limited editions are will likely also be highly limited in practical distribution, while the formally limited variant will be made in 200 editions. Pricing for each has still yet to be announced.
