An Ode to Simplicity: Laurent Ferrier's Classic Origin Blue

For fans of independent watchmaking, Laurent Ferrier's Classic Origin minimalist sector-style dial has been one of the most attractive ones in three-hand timepieces in recent years. It is distinguished by four elongated hour markers and the fine "Assegai" hands as well as a bold subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o'clock. At this year's Watches & Wonders, the Swiss brand unveils a new variant in a 40mm titanium case, with a face featuring a deep blue hue that gets darker from the center to the periphery.

While the opaline degrade dial delights with its simplicity, the inner workings don't fail to impress either. The Classic Origin Blue is powered by a genuine movement with manual winding and a power reserve of 80 hours. Visible through the sapphire case back, it incorporates a screw-balance and Breguet-type overcoil balance-spring. This combination enhances precision and mitigates positional timekeeping errors while improving isochronism. The brand’s famous long-blade ratchet system is another highlight.

It goes without saying that the caliber LF116.01 is finished to the highest standards. The bridges are microbeaded, with black rhodium finish and entirely hand-polished edges. Each screw-head is mirror polished and the escapement bridge is adorned with a hand-made interior angle, reflecting the workshop’s meticulous attention to detail. The Classic Origin Blue is presented with a tone-in-tone leather strap. Pricing is marked at $33,500.
