Introducing the Baltic x Peter Auto Tricompax Special Edition

Watchmaking takes an undeniable influence from automobiles, both in design and function. In the latest example of this fusion of horology and classic car enthusiasm, French watchmaker Baltic partners with Peter Auto, a Parisian-based auto events organizer, for their latest timepiece. Hailed by Baltic as a reference in the field of historic motor racing, Peter Auto brings its expertise to the French watch brand to help develop its first three-counter chronograph, the Baltic x Peter Auto Tricompax Special Edition.

The new collaborative piece features what is fast becoming known as a signature Baltic case shape, complete with a multi-layered construction and tapering, slightly curved lugs. The watch measures 39.5mm in steel, its case wearing 13.5mm high. The style is punctuated by a black aluminum tachymeter scale on its bezel, with the function allowing a theoretical driver to measure speeds up to 200 km/h.

For its dial, the Tricompax Baltic x Peter Auto uses a light beige display with a matte finish, the surface featuring black engine-turned counters and applied indices. Inspired by the “golden age” of motor racing, the Tricompax opts for a three-counter chronograph configuration. Nodding further to this influence is the colorway of the watch, wherein the seconds hand, the minute counter, and its hand are adorned with orange, while the hour register and its hand are yellow.

Powering the chronograph is the Sellita SW510-M, the manually-wound caliber offering an unusual, but relatively high, 63-hour power reserve. Notably, the Tricompax is the first Baltic watch to utilize that Swiss movement, though in the trend of the French brand it is unlikely to be the last.

Retailing for €1,975 (approximately $1,990), the Tricompax Baltic x Peter Auto comes with a pair of flyback stopwatches inspired by the design of the Tricompax. The pair of chronographs are adapted to racing use given that the flyback functionality allows the reset and the start of a new count simultaneously. The release is limited to 300 pieces, all numbered and to become available for purchase via the Baltic's website starting on August 26 at 10am EST.
