Mido Launches New Commander Datoday

A classic design in continuous production since 1959 returns with a nuanced color pairing— deep green and rose-gold tone— bringing renewed focus to proportion, light, and texture.

With the Commander Datoday, Mido revisits one of its longest-running designs, the Commander, a model that has remained in continuous production since 1959. The latest iteration retains the collection’s familiar architecture— rounded case, slim bezel, and expansive dial— while refining its visual identity through material and color. At the center of this update is a carefully balanced palette. The case and three-link bracelet are executed in rose-gold-toned PVD-coated steel, extending seamlessly across the watch’s integrated profile. This warm metallic hue contrasts with a deep green dial, finished with a sunray brushing that produces shifting reflections under changing light. The interplay between these two tones defines the watch’s character, combining a distinctly retro sensibility with a contemporary edge.

The dial itself is structured by a stepped flange that adds both depth and precision. Its quarter-second scale and crisp white markings introduce a technical note, while maintaining clarity. Faceted hour markers, finished in rose-gold tone with black detailing and white Superluminova, echo the geometry of the baton hands, which follow the same material and color logic. The day and date display at 3 o’clock, rendered in black on white, integrates cleanly into the overall composition.

A boxed sapphire crystal reinforces the vintage-inspired aesthetic, slightly elevating the dial and enhancing its layered appearance. The slim case measures 40mm in diameter and is water-resistant to 50 meters, with a transparent case back revealing the movement.
