Mido Ocean Star Worldtimer: A Timezone Explorer Reimagined
Mido unveils a refreshed Ocean Star Worldtimer just in time for the height of the travel season, offering a stylish and functional companion for summer journeys around the globe. Inspired by a vintage Mido from the 1970's, the watch blends cool retro aesthetics with contemporary engineering. Enhanced by a velvety silver sunburst finish, the distinctive dial with a bold black-and-red checkerboard is framed by a black, unidirectional world time bezel marked with 24 city names. White Super-LumiNova applied to the center groove of the hour and minute hands, the tip of the seconds hand, and the dots on the hour markers ensures readability even in the darkest conditions. A double window at 3 o’clock displays the weekday and date, an essential information for globetrotters.

MidoThe Ocean Star Worldtimer is also perfectly suited for travel thanks to its 200-meter water resistance, making it ready for adventures both above and below the surface. Mido’s reputation in this field is deeply rooted in the brand’s DNA. Since 1944, the Ocean Star line has embodied its engineering prowess in creating robust, pressure-resistant timepieces. Its pioneering Aquadura crown-sealing system, introduced as early as 1930, set industry standards and earned Mido the moniker “King of Waterproof Watches” in the 1980s. That legacy lives on in the Ocean Star Worldtimer, which is pressure resistant to 20 bar. The 40.5mm stainless steel case, featuring alternating polished and satin-brushed surfaces, is built for endurance. A screw-down case back adorned with the Ocean Star’s signature seastar emblem reinforces the model’s maritime heritage, while ensuring structural integrity under pressure.

MidoAt the heart of the Ocean Star Worldtimer beats the Caliber 80, the Swatch Group's high-performance automatic movement. Delivering up to 80 hours of power reserve, it is equipped with a Nivachron balance spring–a state-of-the-art material renowned for its resistance to magnetic fields and physical shocks. Although hidden beneath the case back, the movement is finely finished with Geneva Stripes and bears the engraved Mido logo, a detail that reflects the brand’s commitment to refinement even in unseen components.
Completing the look is a black "Bund"-style leather strap–a nod to classic pilot watches. This two-piece construction allows the wearer to switch between a pared-down leather strap with red stitching or a full "Bund" configuration with a padded leather base featuring white contrast stitching.
Pricing is marked at $1,700.
