WTNY 2019 DAY TWO

Glashütte Original Brings Vintage Spezimatic Dive Watch to WatchTime New York

WatchTime New York 2019 kicked off last night at Gotham Hall with a VIP cocktail party and continues today with a full day of panels, events, and product introductions. And as a special bonus for aficionados of vintage watches, Glashütte Original, one of the 37 sponsoring watch brands, will be showcasing a true rarity for the first time ever in the United States: the “Spezimatic Type RP TS 200” divers’ watch from 1969.

Shown alongside the modern tribute watch it inspired — the SeaQ 1969 Limited Edition — the Spezimatic Type RP TS 200 launched during the Cold War era of Glashütte watchmaking and intended as a tool watch for sport and combat divers. The inspiration for several contemporary pieces, this historic model’s dial has the inscription  “Rubies 26,” which denoted exceptional accuracy, and “Shockproof,” which referred to the robustness of its design. This watch provided the primary inspiration for the new Spezialist collection — which first was unveiled at the Swatch Group’s “Time to Move” event earlier this year in Switzerland and will be seen by U.S. audiences for the first time at WatchTime New York — and the opportunity to view it alongside its most direct modern descendant, the Spezialist SeaQ — should not be missed. Tickets are still available for Saturday afternoon and can be purchased here.
