Urwerk Launches UR-100V Magic T in “Hunter Green”

With the new UR-100V Magic T 'Hunter Green,' Urwerk is kicking off the new year with a bang. A tour de force in the independent scene, the Geneva-based brand was founded in 1997 through a partnership between the watchmaking talents of Felix Baumgartner and the designer Martin Frei. Baumgartner and Frei have continued their work uninterruptedly over the past 27 years, earning a well-deserved reputation for pushing the boundaries of traditional timekeeping and advancing watchmaking through their unconventional creations that combine a distinctive design language with an avant-garde approach to watchmaking. One of the best examples is the UR-100 family, with its orbital hour-satellite display on a futuristic 3-D dial that has been an identifying characteristic of the brand’s watches from the early days.

The central axis of the watch maintains a three-arm carousel system made of light-weight aluminum. The time is displayed in the Urwerk-typical manner using these three satellites, each of which carries four numbers indicating the hours: the correct one moves clockwise along the circular minute track at the bottom of the dial, indicating the minutes by following the precise mechanical choreography of the self-winding movement. Fitted into the left and right sides are two special counters. One shows the distance traveled by the Earth around its own axis in 20 minutes (555 km), while the other indicates the distance traveled by the Earth around the Sun in the same time, aka 5,740 km.

In the latest edition, the minute hands and the 60 on the minute scale are executed in "hunter green", a shade that, according to Martin Frei, is "a living, breathing color that interacts with light and time.” Felix Baumgartner adds: “We worked on this metallic ash green with the same devotion as an antique patina, endowing the timepiece with an aura that is both industrial and organic."

The UR-100V Magic T 'Hunter Green'I comes in a 41mm titanium case. Like the bracelet, it is sand-blasted and shot-blasted for an industrial look.

The limited edition is powered by the UR 12.02 caliber, which is partially open-worked and has its turbine-integrated rotor on display through a sapphire exhibition case back. A planetary turbine system that minimizes over-winding and wear, it is described by Urwerk as a “Windfang” — a German expression that translates to “air trap.” In addition to the turbine system that prevents excessive rotation, there are a large number of holes placed around the rotor that reduces its overall mass. Finally, the finishing of the movement is highlighted through circular graining, sanding, brushing, and chamfered screw heads. This automatic movement with a rate of 4 Hz stores a 48-hour power reserve when fully wound.

Pricing is marked at $66,000 (excluding taxes).
