Racing Ahead: TAG Heuer Unveils New Monaco Chronograph Dedicated to the Las Vegas Grand Prix
As the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix (taking place on November 23rd) approaches, TAG Heuer unveils a striking new iteration of its Monaco Chronograph Skeleton, blending the spirit of F1-event with its rich heritage of racing inspired watches. The watch features the signature square case with a diameter of 39mm that has defined the Monaco since its debut in 1969. Crafted from lightweight titanium grade 2 and water-resistant to 100 meters, it offers both durability and a contemporary aesthetic. The black sandblasted surface creates a bold contrast to the vivid pink accents that adorn the dial, capturing the energetic flair of the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
The skeletonized dial is a true beauty to behold, offering an unobstructed view of some of the intricate mechanics within. One of the highlights is the mechanism for the date, which is indicated at 6 o'clock beneath the running seconds hand. In order to make room for the display of the gears, there is no sub dial. The chronograph counters however echo the shape of the case. They display a bright pink. The same rings true for the central stop seconds hand and the hour markers.
At the heart of the timepiece is TAG Heuer's in-house Calibre Heuer 02, a state-of-the-art automatic chronograph movement that was introduced in 2019 to commemorate the Monaco's 50th anniversary. It offers 80 hours of power reserve and is equipped with a vertical clutch and a column-wheel. The latter comes to life through the sapphire case back. The partially skeletonized rotor in form of a steering wheel further highlights the technical allure and ties in with the watch’s bold color scheme.
The new Monaco Chronograph is fitted with a black calfskin and rubber strap equipped with a sandblasted black DLC grade-2 titanium folding clasp with double safety pushbuttons. It retails for approximately CHF 11,000 or $12,450 when converted to USD.
